I'm a kid in a candy store, I just found out that I'm getting a purpose built industrial contactor, that's been designed ground up for winching, and, is rated at 800A **CONSTANT** draw, and is 100% waterproof...

For cheaps! ($120ish)

If there's any interest, I could reach out to em and see if they'd do a group buy (it's coming from the UK)

I don't know what that does but it sounds like I want one when I get a new/better winch.

Your "I don't know what this is but I want it" attitude is amazing, Chris.

Never claimed be the smartest cookie in the box lol and yall know I'm electrically dumb. But if he is talking about using it to relocate/replace the control box for his winch then it's something that could be useful for me since I've already had to rewrite my control box to get it to a spot inside the engine bay instead of on the bumper.

Sent from my mansion in Grouchland.

What?! Do you have more details on this? That sounds epic.

well, I was going to make a separate thread for it, but, I'll give ya'll a few days to mull the idea over...

http://gigglepin4x4store.gostorego....ccessories/pro-series-albright-contacter.html

this is the link to it, my contact with the company says they don't really do a "group buy" deal, but, to gather numbers of how many people are wanting to order them and let him know and he'll see if we can get a good deal on discounts.

the specs are simply this. it's a unit that replaces the entire solenoid pack, handles forward and reverse, and handles a constant load of 800 Amps, and is 100% waterproof, also worth noting, if/when these fail, they're engineered to fail "open" rather than closed like many solenoids do. Warn, superwinch, milemarker, and a few others are switching to for their higher end winches and tons of winchers in the UK and OZ are switching to these, because they won't overheat and die, leaving you trying to paddle up a creek without an oar.

so, if you're interested, make it known, and, I'll send a number to them and see if we can't get em brought down a little on price. I'm not entirely sure how the shipping part will work, but, he quoted me that if I got the order in today by 3pm I would have the solenoid on wednesday, so, pretty awesome turn around time for these guys....

well, I'll be honest, I'm the type of consumer that companies love and sales people hate, because, before I spend more than about $50 on something, I'm going to research the weaknesses and shortcomings of just about anything, get opinions from everyone, and all of that fun stuff.

The shortcoming of *most* if not all winches, is the solenoid system. The extremely expensive winches have moved to these contactor boxes, and, in doing so have a near 0 fail rate (due to the box failing at least). Thus began my search for one of these. Find one, wire it to any series wound winch that has a near zero fail rate on the motor, and boom, rock solid winch set up. So, I ordered an Engo e9000, knowing that I'm going to have to silicone it to seal it up. Now that I've found this, I believe that I'll have a near-indestructible one...

anyway, with the Solenoid Replacement unit...ya'll chime in if we want em, and I'll keep a tally, and send it over to them, and see if we can get em to come down a little on the price, or, maybe a lot....who knows...
