Inspections are a pain in the ass. We have to do them as well but no where near the detail as Kyle. We don't have to pass a sniffer or anything here. But again, it still helps to know a guy.

We don't have to do a sniffer test here anymore, thankfully. Now they just go by CEL and what the ODB says. Otherwise I'd never pass with my headers and CEL eliminators.

I did inspections at a mom and pop shop in New Hampshire for a few months while I was between jobs. The number of vehicles he had me put stickers on without actually looking at anything was...surprising.

I only do people I know that way. Anyone else gets looked over and jacked up and front end checked.
Even for people I know, tires and lights have to be correct to state standards.

First year I was 'forced' to do modified sticker, the shops wouldn't pass it because of the shrockworks bumper. Until l proved it was an aftermarket bumper.
Last year they measured my bumper and headlight height. Almost didn't pass.
Inspection sticker is dead now again, and I'm not sure it'll pass unless I crank the coilovers down.

Ours is $25. They don't scan codes, they don't care about ABS lights, but...... If 50% or your 3rd brake light is out? That's a fail. 1 tire to a single wear mark? That's a fail. If your fog lights don't turn off when your high beams come on? That's a fail. Anything other than factory headlights /fog lighting? That's a fail. Any uncovered auxiliary lights that face forward? That's a fail.
And TECHNICALLY body and suspension lifts are illegal in VA. But nobody enforces it.

Oh I gotcha, one is vertical the other is horizontal. Yeah ours change color each year too.

We have to have auxiliary lights covered that are above headlamp height.
But they are putting a bill in to get it cleared due to people running LED bars.
most of what you said about lights is true here too. Plus if you added lights. They have to work. Or its a fail, unless they fix said light that fails.

Lifts aren't illegal here but they do limit height per vehicle. Track width times wheelbase, divided by 2200. That number is the maximum legal lift height. They take oversized tires into account, too.

We also have bumper height laws. But they aren't enforced unless it's ridiculous. An F-series pickup on 37's with 10" of lift makes em get out the tape measure.

Well I got pulled over. For no mod sticker. Got a ticket and then got sticker. Got ticket thrown out but somehow didn't and lost my license in the whole ordeal.
I don't drive thru that town anymore.
