What is it all about?

Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. www.geocaching.com.

That is the official definition.. the unofficial one is that it is a fun reason to get outside and go places.

I used to, lost interest kinda. After 1000+ finds I think I can take a break. I may get back into it one day, but I've totally lost interest in urban hides. I'm thinking if I ever get back into it, I'll stick to hiking, kayaking, or 4x4 required hides.

The main reason I posted this is because four wheeling and geocaching really go hand in hand.

As some of the Cacher's mentioned in the YouTube videos posted, the game takes you places you wouldn't normally go....that are usually very cool.

It is a fairly simple hobby, a smartphone or GPSR purchase away from enjoying almost 2,000,000 potential finds.

And by looking for increased difficulty caches it exercises the mind as well as the body.

I just thought I'd share something I really enjoy.

When I get home from work I'll post up some cool cache photos.

So...been playing with GSAK software (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife), which is an xcel style software for organizing and downloading copious amounts of specific data.

Pretty cool...free software with a nag feature to upgrade ($25 lifetime, upgrades are $15), but really helps to organize all your cache searches.

Google pocket queries for more information on the ability to download 500/1000 caches at a time into your GPSR.

I just poked my head in at Geo.com...I could have sworn we did more caches than that!!! 21???? Me thinks something isn't right, because we'd do 10 or so a day for about 6 months..

Geocaching can be a lot of fun. I travel a bit for work and have found geocaches nearby almost every place work takes me. I haven't done much in recent years, but with my kids old enough to enjoy it, I am planning renewal in geocaching activity.

My wife and I love caching. We've only done a couple of hundred, but I prefer rural caches to urban. I don't like having to constantly worry about muggles.
