New Nissan club forming in Colorado

Hey all, X'ers in the Denver area are forming a bonafide Colorado off-road club. Most of what is happening has been posted on TNX. We need to get it over here, too. It is kind of hard to keep it straight on multiple forums. Check it out and feel free to comment or hit me up for info.

http://www.thenewx.org/forum/showthread.php?t=78137

There are a few aspects of being a club that we are considering and basic principles we discussed at a meeting last week as a basis.

1. We are all Xterra (Nissan) enthusiasts. We have a bond. I.e. we like to get together to mod our trucks, talk about them, show them off, get new ideas, wheel them and hang out with each other. This is a great group of people and that is why we band together. That is the purpose of our club.

2. We spend so much time on our trucks and with each other wheeling, meeting, etc - we can use that to give back to our community. One of the big things is trail advocacy since wheeling is one of our common goals. Trail and community stewardship goes hand in hand with our purpose as a group/ club.

3. Per Colorado laws, once we start calling ourselves a club the State can consider us a "partnership". That could subject us to various laws, taxes, and PERSONAL liability. To protect our individual interests we should incorporate as a 501.3c non-profit and apply for tax-exempt status. This will keep our individual households safe and separate from the club and allow us to raise funds to apply to trails, charities, etc.

Like I said before, a few of us are doing some legwork about 501.3c, forming a club, etc, etc. We would like to put together a framework to present to everyone and go from there. The club will be designed to meet the objectives listed above. It will require writing and ratifying bylaws, electing officials, organizing events (trail runs, trail cleanup, mod days, etc), trail stewardship, and whatever else we want to use it for. It will be BY the club - FOR the club.
There will need to be some required participation, nominal annual fees (fee use ALWAYS voted on by the group - no individual has authority to spend fees), et cetera. Most of this is meant to accomplish what the club charter sets out to do, to help sponsors/ partners recognize us as a legitimate organization, ensure that people who want to join have motive to do so, etc. It will also ensure the club has the legs and infrastructure to be an organized collaboration of people with a common and dedicated purpose.

If you are interested please stay tuned and plan on a few meetings in the next 30 days or so. Some of the decision making by the forest service begins in January so we need to push for establishing a framework. We know that the holidays are upon us but we need to find a way to hash this out quickly.

Keep in mind that there are those of us willing to do the legwork described above to make this work. We understand most of us would like to join the club, kick back, reap the benefits and that is the idea. That is OK. Watch for more detail and get excited about this.

I haven't updated this in a month! A lot has been going on. A lot has been posted on TNX due to the large number of Colorado folks on there (we'll get them over here, too)

Please plan to attend club meetings on Saturday, January 11th and Saturday, January 25th. Location and times TBD but we will accommodate all with a centralized location.
The first meeting will take a while as we will be discussing the framework of the club organization, ratifying the bylaws, discussing budget/dues, setting the officer positions (President, V.P., Secretary, and Treasurer) and establishing memberships.
The 2nd meeting will begin with the voting for President (who will then take over the proceedings), and the other officers. The bylaws will then be signed by the officers and club business will officially commence.
These will be very important meetings to attend and we encourage you to make time to be there. You all will be taking positions of leadership and/or voting on who will be your leaders.

I encourage everyone to attend. Important matters will be decided (like who runs the club).
You must be a member in good standing and present to vote.
The first meeting will describe the club, its purpose (like-minded off-road/Nissan enthusiasts who want to give back and keep trails open to support the things we like to do together) and establish membership. You can join at that time or any time after.
The second meeting is about established members voting in the leaders and getting started.
This is the real deal - not a loosely formed group of folks. In order to continue to do the things we like to do we need to be an official entity to get the attention and support of orgs like the Forest Service, Tread Lightly, land managers, sponsors, etc.
Note: Xorro, Golf286, New Addiction, H.I. McDunnough and I will not be officers. We are establishing the club framework to turn over to the greater group. A lot will be explained at the meeting and we are happy to discuss at any time.

Can anyone sport that LOGO... I like it!!! uhhh can I change that "C" to mean Chicago?!?!? LOL

It is pretty cool isn't it! :kewl: It is based on the Colorado state flag and colors so it doesn't quite work for representing Chicago. :shucks: I must add that the NORAC logo is the property of NORAC.

Was kidding about Chicago. Actually I have decals from other clubs from around the US. Just my way of support and to show the Nationwide love of the Xterra. If your club becomes a reality and you do develop the decal, let me know how much to purchase one. I promise not to modify it to Chicago. That is if a non-member/supporting outsider is allowed.

We love the support! The club IS a reality now and there will be decals. The club members will get them first and then we will go from there. We love to have and give support to the Nation!

Def didn't want to sound like a jerk about the logo/property thing. You just reminded us that we should mention out to protect the club's interests.

It is a great community of people. That is pretty much why NORAC exists. Good people, common goals.
We are on Facebook, too. Check there and/or shoot me a PM with your email and we can send more info if you are interested.

Hey Steeze,
That sounds great I look forward to meeting you.. The bad news as of the last FS mtg it looks like Lefthand will be closed for the next 2years due to the flood.. There's a few other trails that may have the same problem like Johnny Park and Pierson, the local clubs are trying to work with the FS to see what we can do to help out..

I don't think we could actively participate since I work weekends, but would love to run some trails with you if you plan to head out this way.
Hey Torrey,
We'd love to have you guys part of the group, we'll let you guys know when were doing runs and hopefully you can join us..

Yeh, it really sucks.. Have you ever done Pole Hill? The section that goes through the open meadow and up the hill has a 6' deep trench as narrow as a foot and as wide as 10' in spots.. The trail is literally gone, there was another section past the mud pits that was completely wiped out for 200yds. There's a lot of trail work to be done to say the least.

I can't believe it has been 2 years since we posted in this thread! I apologize.
NORAC is going strong. [emoji123]
We are a very active club with our local forest service. We have 3 major trail areas we have adopted, maintain and patrol within the Boulder Forest Service district in Colorado including the Bunce School Road area, Caribou, and Kingston Peak. I should have all the stats in front of me now but I don't. However, we have donated over 1000 hours (officially recorded at end of the summer but more since) on our trails as well as others. We also had a huge turnout at GONEMoab and held many local trail runs this year. Thanks too many of our sponsors here for support, local members and vendors. We have had a great year! Just in case you didn't know, we are a full-fledged club, incorporated, 501.c.7, legit entity.
I thought you all might be stoked to see how a group can get together and make a difference.

I saw the title of the thread pop up and thought, "Don't we already have one of those out there?" didn't realize it was your original post from 3 years ago. Damn, it's been 3 years!

I'm glad things are going well for you guys out there. Keep it up. I've got a few more years before we make the move out there and I'd like to be a part of it when I get there.
