I have an 03 3.3l 4X4 auto with 197K miles. Had it less than 2 weeks so I'm not too familiar with it or Xterra in general. It had a P0328 code, P0102 code and a P0455 code when I got it. Plan to work on those but haven't had time yet. The truck has had no issues as far as running and performance yet.......

I drove it today. No issue for about 15 minutes. Then all of a sudden at 60 mph it abruptly started massively cutting out and shaking. Very hard to describe. I pulled over and checked everything to no avail. Pulled back out and noticed a slight difference in power but not too bad. MPH held on slight hills until it hit 60 again and the same thing happened. This time I just let off and it stopped. Now this was not tire or suspension related. Felt like it was generatining from the passenger side of the engine compartment. As long as I stayed under 60 I was ok but there was a power loss. No way I could have passed anyone. Once I got in stop and go traffic it started to stall at idle. Had to re crank multiple times. If I was gentle with the accelerator it would do ok leaving a red light but if I got on it a little it would start stalling out. Does not feel electrical. Stopped at Oriellys and had the codes checked. Same 3 codes as before but now a P0420 TW Catalyst/system B1 code. Made it home with it with no real issues but performance is shot. About to go an do the Mass Air Flow cleaning and the Air Intake Mods while I have it torn down.

Any ideas on the issue?
Thanks in advance

Ignore the p0328. Every VG33 has it set and it does nothing if you're not super charged

Check the intake systems for leaking / cracked hoses.

P0102 - Check your ground on top of the intake, and battery voltage on pin 2 (2nd to left) of the MAF sensor. Beyond that, it's checking for shorts/opens in the harness. Or a bad MAF.

The 0420 is most likely related to the really rough drive you had previously

Got a little side tracked. Had planned to do the stock intake mod any way so started tackling that in the process. That mod is done. I have gone thru checking all of the main hoses and haven't found anything so far.

Checking all of Muadeeb's ideas first thing in the morning.

Didn't think it was a cat problem but that code scared me. Don't want to or have time to tackle an exhaust issue right now.

Ok it's worse today. Finished the stock intake mod. Then I cleaned the mass air flow sensor. I buttoned it back up and gave it a try. Sounded good at first, revved it from under the hood and it did fine. Got in and started up drive way. As I pressed the accelerator there was nothing there. Kind of like it was starving. Slowly picked up speed. Put it in neutral, revved up and it cut out bad. Brought it back in the shop, left it running. Checked to see if MAF plug was attached well. When I wiggled the plug it cut off. Checked the wires and plug all looked good. Plugged it back in, cranked it up. Unplugged the wires and this time it did not cut of. Re plugged and unplugged and nothing changed.

Doesn't this show that the MAF is bad?
Any other ideas?
Thanks

I called myself doing it but I will try again tomorrow. I will try the carb cleaner like in the link.
I ordered a MAF sensor but I won't have it until Monday. I can remove the wire from the MAF and it will keep running. It will even crank with the wiring disconnected.
