Those are awesome...but looking at the odd shapes of the flat plates, and funky angles to weld it all up and make them follow the body lines...I bet that is quite a tedious product to make...not sure if I want to know the price LOL

Curious if they mount using the stock mounting points of the plastic corners? I ask since the stock corners use small trim screws and I gotta wonder how the underlying mounts will hold up if the steel corners have an impact given the extra weight and the rigidity of the corner transmitting any force directly to the mounts instead of absorbing energy by crunching plastic.

you know us better than that rob. We're not ONLY using the the little mounting points on the ends. We do use them, but those are to ensure a quality fit & finish.

The 2nd gens use the structural bolts that the step attaches to for its structural support.

The 1st gen has a large backing/bearing plate inside the factory sheet metal to spread the forces out and provide an adequate fastening surface. A couple holes will need to be punched in the sheet metal that his hidden behind the corners and they will need to be accessed from inside the rear quarter panel accessible by removing the plastic panel in the hatch where the 6x9" speakers live.

I think you'll like the price. We are significantly cheaper than our competitor. Our production pieces will be folded in as many places as possible. This will create a lot of very nice clean seams and will reduce the amount of weld time we have into it which also minimizes warpage, grinding time, consumables, etc.

We're expecting to announce details of the group buy next week. Sub $400 is the expected target.

Awww man you done thought of everything! You are right...I should have known better :) I knew the trim screws wouldn't hold the metal securely...or hold my weight on a step!

Yep, we've been working on these a long time to get them right.

Some people - not saying you - don't understand our process and see pictures of product that ins't 100% production level and don't understand that we want to let you in on the fact that we have something we are working on or that is about to go into production. But we may be showing you a prototype level product that we have had on the truck for a while to test or that has been cut apart a few times to get the manufacturing processes correct. We aren't a big rich OEM that can just put together handfuls of product in the build process. Instead of making things pretty from day 1 we focus on making them right and testing them to the fullest extent our budget allows. I have worked for some fortune 200 companies in testing and validation so i put a lot of focus in that area before we ever get to the point we are willing to let people know we have something. By the time we put up picture of something, we're pretty confident in it, even if its got hammer marks in the pictures. The aesthetics will come as part of a sound manufacturing process. But we don't get to the point of production without having people that want to buy the product. That would just be us wasting money.

So that said, what is pictured is our final prototype. It is the final design shape, structure and mounting. All of which have gone through re-designs. All of which have been tested until we were happy. It is not a production level piece and production level pieces will have a couple of changes in the manufacturing process, not the design, as that has been locked.

Things like
-the step being fully welded to seal out anything from getting inside. The current piece has ~2" stitch welds to test "worse case scenario" loading and provide the appropriate factor of safety.
- panels being bent instead of all welded together
-panels being cut on a CNC plasma table instead of hand cut. This will make everything much more repeatable, shapes and lines cleaner, and superior fitment for stronger, more consistent and more aesthetically pleasing welds.

I'll just say this, they are damn nice.

We're getting such a good rate from our powder coater for takin in such a larger order between these, sliders and bumpers it's not going to really save much money to not powder cost them.

If you want them bare though, you get them bare.

Another question sorry man. Actually more for your powder coater. Can he color match? I wonder how they'd look same color as the body.

Our powder coater is pretty damn good. He does candies and clears. All sorts of stuff. I would have to ask about color match but my inclination is to say yes, probably. Hep uses the same guy, thats actually how we met Tony.

Rager's Edge powder coating.

I love that there is a step on the 1st Gen corners. Any changes to the fastening?

On the 1st gen, yes. The mounting for the factory plastic step is not adequate to be load bearing. The 1st gen will require drilling a few holes in the sheet metal behind the corner and using a backing plate inside the body panel. The area is accessible by removing the plastic trim panel in the hatch where the 6x9" speaker lives.

The current plan is to begin shipping units from the upcoming group by in mid-February

Definitely interested w/o cup holders, maybe a bottle opener? Can they be bedlined or would powder coat be better? Also, do they work with a shrock rear bumper w/o a tire carrier? One last thing, sorry, is it possible to get the step like the first picture, rather than the step in the last picture or what you see is what you get? Thanks for the help.

We have decided we are not going to bedline these. For the kind of rate we will get on powder coat on an order the size we will put in that is the way to go.

Also, do they work with a shrock rear bumper w/o a tire carrier?

These will work with any bumper that work with the factory plastic corners - stock or aftermarket.

What you see is what you get. We originally tried to make the step on the 1st gen the same as on the 2nd gen but the fender flare on the 1st gen is not as protruded from the body as the 2nd gen. This made for an extremely narrow step. Dangerously or annoyingly narrow. It was basically unusable. We looked at it and decided if we're going to go through all this effort, and if you're going to spend your money on it then there was no way we were going to do something that wasn't functional. As it is the step is 4" deep. That was as small as I was comfortable going but is still a good balance of not sticking considerably outside the body lines.

Oh OK sounds good thanks for the clarification. I would be getting one for a 2nd gen. But, definitely interested for a 2nd gen.

Love these. Definitely in for a pair when they're ready.

The craftsmanship, respect for process, and attention to detail & functionality is certainly appreciated in a company. Keep up the great work, guys!

Personally for me, I think its an awesome product and cool idea but rather impractical for me. It Just added weight that I can put somewhere else like in skids or something. Plus it doesnt help im broke. If this was a total project truck and I had a crap load of money and what not id pull the trigger...just too impractical for me
