2014 Xterra Pro-4x Trailer wiring harness plug snapped.

So I shattered the plug on my 2015 xterra tow harness. It was an OEM 7 pin plug, that mounted to a CURT MFG tow bar, using a bracket that went over the
end of the towing receptacle. http://www.amazon.com/Curt-58000-El...8-1-fkmr0&keywords=7+pin+mounting+bracket+tow I was not a huge fan of this setup regardless of the damage, because the cable was honestly too short, and further I thought it looked horrible. Also everything was kind of just hanging out there.

Well, now I need to replace the outlet anyways, which I do not think should be too challenging.

This is what I am thinking.

Get something like this. Then cut the 4 plug connector off and cut off the old plug. Splice the wires together appropriately and connect (does anyone happen to have a wiring diagram from Nissan.)

Then put the whole shebang in something like this.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

If you just want to splice in a new plug I would go with any 7 pin out there. Now I would mount it in the bumper. If you go offroad anything that hangs down can break.

Exactly. I was going to actually put that little bracket around the bar and sench it to the top side behind the fender. So it's pretty far out of the way.

I had the same thing happen to me, and how I fixed it is documented in the thread linked below. Keep in mind that you don't want to relocate to far from the hitch or else the trailer wiring won't reach or will reach with the trailer straight but get yanked out when you make a turn.

I am going to do this very install.

I do have a quick question. Do you have a brake controller installed right now? If so, how difficult is it to hook up to the factory wiring bundle.

I did not bother installing one when I purchased my kit, which perhaps was a mistake. But no trailers that I currently use have electric tow brakes.

Thanks!

I am going to use this one...

I don't have a brake controller, but wiring one should be very easy. The Xterra is prewired for a brake controller and has a harness plug under the dash just to the right of the steering column (behind the little rubber pad that keeps your keys from scratching the dash plastic). It's pretty easy to find; The end of it plugs into a harnes like this:

You would connect the bare ends of the above pictured harness to the harness that plugs into your controller. If you already have the brake harness with the relays installed in your passenger kick panel, you'll be good to go.

Turned out really nice. I don't get my they did not place it here stock. They could of had a cover or just a hole in the pumper for those who did not have one.

Are going to do the brake controller? I installed one. Got the Prodigy p3 with the xterra wiring harness and it was plug and BAM it worked.

Yeah I would probably end up ripping that off. Haha. Which model did you go with?
