Hey there everyone. I have some questions about the first gen Xterra auto transmissions. For reference purposes, I own a 2002 SE 4x4 Auto non-supercharged.

1. On our first gen Xterras, When replacing the valve body or the entire auto transmission do you have to reprogram the transmission control module?

2. Where is the TCM? External or internal of the transmission?

3. Which side of the transmission cooler in the radiator is the input and output lines?

I'm getting mixed answers. Some say yes it needs reprogrammed others say only 2005 and up 5 speed automatic is the only one that needs it. Mine is a 4 speed automatic 2004 and down RE4R01A

Sorry Ryno whatever was done to my tyranny before I bought it was the last thing done to it. I'll I've done is fix some minor things like the AC resistor and fan, new radio, tires, pml, cold air intake, hitch, and roof rack. Painted the plastics and wheels.

I'm no help with the mechanics. I've had no reason to do anything to it
