Clutch change

On Sunday I am going to look at a 00 with 4x4 and a 5 spd. When checking out hd clutch kits I read that the stock clutch only lasts about 70k which seems a bit short for a clutch as I have had clutches last well over 100k before. I also read that the towing capacity of the manual trans is about 500 lb lower than the auto, in every truck I have ever owned the manual was the same or exerted the auto veriants towing cap. Are the clutches in the xterra just weak or is this somebody trying to cover their butt with lower than actual values?

That's what I thought I have only ever replaced 2 clutches, 1 that was slipping badly when I bought the car at 250k ($50 car that made it to 325k befor I traded it for a v6 t100 truck when I moved that was a span of 5 years with several road trips and a 50 mile daily comute) and the car that I taught my wife to drive stick on. I might still change out the clutch for a heavy duty one when I install the brake controller.

Clutch should be good for well over 100k. You are correct in your assessment. The lower towing capacity it due to the clutch. The trans is the same one from the z31 (early 90s 300zx) and that car was available in Twin turbo spec. There are guys pushing 500+ bhp onto the transmission with no issues.

As far as clutch upgrades go anything that is specd for the z31 should work. The pilot bearing and input shaft are the same as is the flywheel diameter.

JWT is one of the big names in clutches for Nissan.

This is the upgrade from stock.

Well picked it up today and the clutch feels almost new and it starts in 2nd better than my 4runner did in first. The gear stick will take some geting use to since it's half way to the roof

Lol. Yeah the shifter is a little long. A 2" body lift helps.

It's nothing to look at right now and it needs a windshield and a oil change, when bi got it home i pulled the air filter and it was way past time for a replacment. It's on 30s right now but I have 31s from my 4runner with aloy rims. I also need to get a hitch on the truck for my recovery loop. I have some tool holders from a out of service fire truck that will be holding a shovle and axe in the rear.
