Put in some work today. Pressure washed and somewhat cleaned up.

Pulled all this crap off... wont be needing it.

I then cut the old shock brackets off, pulled the calipers, and scraped more of the harder grease off. Ran out of time so I will attack it more tomorrow, hopefully have the shafts out and knuckles off.

Did a little more work today.

Pulled the hubs off, cleaned all that grease off to see that the bearings were shot. Looks to me like they caught some moisture. Fresh Bearings and spindles for both sides!

Here is where I stopped for the day. I cleaned the rest of the old shock brackets off, ran a flap wheel over them to get it all nice and smooth. Stuffed rags in the tubes and taped them off really well to keep dirt and moisture out for the week. Hopefully next week I can have some decent weather to go wild with the sandblaster.

Basically with this SAS, as much as I would love to have it ready for Gone 2017, I don't think my wallet can swing that. My suspension choice alone is going to cost a small fortune. My current timeline is to have the Calmini kit ordered in april, the coilovers the following month, and kinda whenever my wallet allows the stuff to rebuild the axle. August mainly is the timeline due to weather changes in my area, come September winter starts to show its face and it gets cool. I would like to get to do a few really hard runs and shake things out before 4.5-5 months of bitter cold Wyoming winter.

So as for the wheel hubs, I am going to try to clean up and reuse the factory hubs, they are quite expensive and hard-ish to find. I will however replace the bearings and races as well as a thorough cleaning inside and out. Essentially I will make them brand new.

Are they auto or manual?

But yeah, theyre a little hard to come across so I will just try to rebuild the stockers and run them on a fresh spindle. I need to decide on brakes as well considering they're a unit. Im not sure what my options are over the single pot calipers off the wagoneer unless I spend a small fortune for Willwoods....

Unfortunately, those are your options. It's either the single pots or the wilwoods. There was a guy that was making a kit to run dual pot d60 calipers and rotors work but you needed 17" wheels to clear.

I got mine thru Federated for 70 a side. Rotor and all with new races. Check on rotors. Sometimes they come with the rotors if they're a bit on the high side.

I actually was looking to find a set of slotted rotors at the minimum. I do daily this rig, and there are alot of large hills that I do drive to get to my wheeling areas.

Small update on the SAS. I got an Email from RuffStuff about their current sale their having on steering parts. I ordered my GM 1 Ton Y-link steering and a couple other parts. Should have them next week I would guess.

I also have a surprise in the works hopefully have it next week or the week after

While Im waiting for parts to arrive, I decided to just get the RuffStuff Diff cover painted up to match the theme of my truck. I need a few more coats of paint and it should be good to go.

I also did some more work to the outer hubs. I got them cleaned up pretty good and pulled the races. The bearings and Races will get replaced as well as every seal inside and out. I will be soaking the hubs in some metal rescue this weekend and hopefully I can get most of the rust out of them.

I can't wait to see this done. I should gonna be. Good.

I really hope it turns out the way I have it pictured in my head. Im hoping within the next 3-4 weeks to start reassembly on the axle, at least in a small amount. but really I dont know how likely that is... I need new spindles too.... the factory ones are rusted almost completely through

They're so pricey for as common as they are though

Started the soak in rust dissolver today. So far everything is doing really well.

This is about an hour and a half soaking.

Here is roughly 3 hours in the soak. I am leaving them soaking on the splines overnight and hopefully that will clean that section up really good. I will flip them over first thing tomorrow and continue to soak the brake rotor side for a few more hours. After that I will clean the solvent off and prep and paint them gloss black.

So I pulled the hubs out of the rust dissolver bath today, and rinsed them off. THEY LOOK AWESOME! Colour me impressed, the stuff works pretty good for as bad as the rust was on these hubs. Next step is to prep for a healthy primer coat and some gloss black paint. Should be about finished with these tonight
