Broke it, Again.

Looks like the Dana 44 gave up on the way home.
I had been having issues out of my front wheel bearings and I finally tied it to the MileMarker hubs I put on the front of the X. I took those off and swapped the slugs back in it.
First night driving it home after that it was fine. Second night, Not so much.

Pinion bearings decided to stop quite suddenly. Which is weird seeing how I just checked the oil and all was well inside the diff.

So... Bout that Dana 50 I have...

New bearings all the way around.

Wheel end bearings have just been replaced. I guess the cheapest way out would be pinion and carrier bearings along with the inner and outer stub shaft on the drivers side.

I am however going to start thinking really hard on overhauling the D50 I have and finding the matching 10.5 sterling for the rear.

Yukon? You go, big spender!
Actually theres quite a small story behind those.

Nowhere when I bought them did it mention Yukon. Not even on the part number.

I paid 450 for the shafts and 50 for shipping.

I didn't expect Yukon. Seeing how it's like a 700 dollar set from everywhere I've looked.

Odd. Ate you sure they're Yukon? And not just a box?
Yep. Otherwise someone is very talented at stapling the box back together and wrapping the shafts up. Also there's a Yukon sticker and book inside.

Sweet rig man! Love this build..

Hey I was wondering how well the calmini sas kit has held up, was it worth it?
And did you just do a spring over in the rear? Did you use the same brackets?

Calmini kit seems to be ok. I had a few fitment issues but it was due to being ordered for an AUTO trans vehicle.
For the travel and the fact I'm no longer gutting centerlinks, idler arms and balljoints. Yes... I think it was worth it.

For the rear I got a set of weld on perches for the axle and went spring over on the rear. Still need to do something about how my shocks are mounted though.

So the 4340 shafts are in and temp fix for saggy rear so I can get a few measurements.
I can't wait until its back up this high again.

So I was out wheeling and broke some leaf springs on the drivers side which caused me to throw the rear driveshaft out. Gutted the yoke and shaft.

Friend found a 2wd shaft for 40 bucks, I snagged it just for the rear yokes, hopefully this week I can get the rear driveshaft repaired.

Bought two new stock spring packs.

One side is almost in. Ran out of time today before work.

Another update went wheeling a few weekends ago and wound up doing some damage to the X. Tore the back bumper corner off the passenger side and broke the glass out of the drivers mirror.

And the thing to tip it all off was the front diff sheared a few teeth off the spider gears.

So I ordered a locker for the D44.

Should be here mid next week.

Tires should arrive as well for new 17" wheels.

Oh.

Tires and locker are installed. Serious learning curve with a locked front diff.

I'm going to have to make a few "adjustments" on the front and rear.

37s don't quite fit.

I could explain it as the rubbing with "I'm IFS and PML on 33s again."

I keep going back and forth with where I want to go with this Xterra.

After some pressure from local friends, I got a few messages from one friend that does a few bits of tuning.

Maybe I'll be back on that track before long.

Anyone following this by chance have a pinout diagram for the VG33 Engine ECU with a manual trans?

It's in there, but not in a single place like the Gen 2 manuals. You'll need to do some digging to get all the info.

20170813_014147.jpg Tires rubbed the rear and we found rust.

Primer, then herculiner.
Bedline all the things.

There's no rust now and they don't rub. Will be extending bumper out and around to the side.

Could you post more pictures of how you cut the rear under the plastics mostly the passenger side. What did you do about the vent in the passenger side I'm not sure if I need to move it or if I can just do away with it. I also have rust hiding under my plastics and I like the look just looking for advice before I start cutting. I've watched YouTube videos on cherokees but they aren't quiet the same as an xterra. Thanks

So I know its been a while since some updates happened. I'll be getting back to updating this more.

But on that note. I broke the Calmini kit.

Had to have a friend patch it to limp it home last season

So this is a thing I'm gonna fix with some re-design to the upper arms that keep cracking off and breaking free from the lower links.

This is also hindering the engine swap.
EVERYTHING is here to do that now.
