This is my 1985 Toyota pickup.
Bought it from a buddy at work, who was selling it since he bought a TJ. This truck is in pretty good shape to be 30 years old. It only has 105,000 original miles, I know I couldn't believe it either. But my buddy at work got it off a lady that lived across the street from him. She had it since the early 90s and 30k miles.
It's possibly the most desirable year too, 85s were the last year of the solid front axle and the first year you could get a fuel injected engine, so I have a pretty rare truck I guess. It's also a 5speed and its on some old 31x10.50x15 all terrains.
I daily this back and forth to work and around town mostly. I have taken it on the interstate once and it did surprisingly well. I trust it enough to drive it just about anywhere. The 22re and the 5 speed don't really like turning the 31s, but it handles it good enough.
This is my first manual transmission vehicle. I haven't had a horrendous experience really. I've stalled it maybe 5 times, I'm still kind of scared of hill starts, and some of my shifts are a bit jerky, but I'm getting better. It's actually fun and I think it adds to the driving experience.
I don't plan on making this into a monster trail rig, even though I have done a bit of research. It has decent factory skids in all the right places, solid axles front and rear and a reliable powertrain. It also has very good ground clearance with the 31s, so I will probably leave the tire size alone, since I don't want to regear. I'd just like to keep this a reliable daily driver/parts getter that is plenty capable of doing some light trails if I would like. Most of my money is going to be put into my Mustang.
Future plans in no particular order
Replace all brake lines and brake fluid
Fix A/C system
New radio and two new speakers (Radio is original and shorts out occasionaly. Only has one speaker and it is blown)
New tires by the winter time (Decent tread on these but they are old. Probably an all terrain)
Timing chain (Don't think its been done, and this is the 22re's achilles heel)
Clutch (I'm going to bet on this being the original clutch)
