Just wanted to make a list of must haves for the Xterra. Obviously things like SAS SHOULD be listed here :) but in all seriousness, most people (including myself) can't afford such an undertaking. So, here goes a few to start off with. (I have a Gen 1 so I can only speak on those.)

HD TRA's
Bandit4x4 Idler Arm Bushings
Non-metal ended snatch strap and D-ring(s)
Flashlight
Tire repair kit

What else?

I can't believe I'm the first to say this: bigger, better tires. Something other than stock, all-terrains at least.

Rest of must have's are mainly for regular maintenance. Fix P/S system with worm clamps, knock sensor bypass for NA VG33E, timing belt/water pump/drive belts/seals for >105K.

Finally, for me this is a must have: repaint the nasty faded plastic trim and grille.

by basic, we mean "actually fill the stock bag" ;) a good trail first aid and trauma kit should have multiple heavy gauze packs, and compression wraps, ace bandages, and other non-elastic ones that can be used to make a tourniquet in the event of an emergency.

snake bite kits, spider bite kits, the list can go on and on, but, it boils down to this: the stock FAK sucks, and needs to be properly stocked. I like the idea, and, if I can find a set of extensions for those quick release straps, I may make a bigger FAK that'll snap into that spot (if I do this, I'll be sure to put a how-to up for everyone so that ya'll can take advantage of such a kit)

jumper cables
OBDII reader - this thing has come in handy multiple times while on the road/trail
zip-ties in variety of sizes up to the big 18" long ones

First Fill-Up (of many)
Betadine and steri-strips have come in handy on the trail in ny kit. And check the expiration dates on any antibiotic ointments or other dressing supplies annually.

Personally, I'm going to add a fridge and RTT to the list. :)

aftermarket or reinforced motor mount, driver's side. Trust me.

Good catch. Had those so long I almost forgot about them. Lost both of those, both TRA's, both lower ball joints, one upper ball joint, and found out I needed a new center link (don't know if I bent it and messed up the end joints then or it was already bad, I would guess I messed it up then but who really knows) all in one fail swoop. I could probably use the trans mount now as well, I'm just too lazy to crawl under there (in the snow) to find out.
