Grrrr I took mine in NY and failed the first time I'd love to do a class

I've taken a few practice tests online, and usually do pretty well except for the FCC regulations crap.

Make sure you are studying the new version of the test, the questions were changed this summer.

You can do it w/o the classes. Just get the book, take the free online practice exams. Study 20 min a day and you will be on the air in no time.

I will have to do that. I will study while offshore and just go take the test when I get home. Now I just need a book.

Tips on getting a book:

1. You want a book for the Technician exam. There are other exams (i.e. General, Extra), Technician is the first license you get when starting in amateur radio.

2. Be sure to get a book written for the 2014-2018 exam. There may be books out there for sale written for the 2010-2014 exam which is no longer in use.
