Hood pin kit

First Fill-Up (of many)
I've had a problem with my hood "floating" while cruising down the highway even after adjusting the hood catch it continued to do it. I have had a hood fly up on my on my mustang a couple years ago, so being kinda gun shy from that I decided to install a set of hood pins in the hood.
The kit I bought came from Jegs racing, and it's one of their black anodized aluminum kits the pins are .5" diameter and 2 3/4" long.

I started by drilling .5" holes in the core support where the hood supports are on the front corners. After drilling the holes I installed the pins that way the pins could dimple the spot on top of the hood where I needed to drill through the skin of the hood. Using a set of stepped drill bits I proceeded to make a .75" hole through the hood. After cleaning the holes up with a file and dropping the hood to make the hight adjustment to the pins I laid the plates down and installed the keeper clips.
At this point I have not mounted the scuff plates a buddy of mine is machining a set for me out of stainless.

Very nice work dude. Got any pics of the pins in the core support?

I've thought a lot about doing this to my truck, my hood moves around A LOT from side to side while going down the road. Thankfully I've never experienced a hood flying up while driving, but I'm also not too excited at the possibility.

Again, looks good!

I'll have to grab some close up of the mounting and the break down, the truck is in my shop and it's raining its A$$ off so it won't happen right now.

The pins mount to the core support, and I just used a couple of HD washers on both sides.

Here you can see the holes through the hood where the pins go.

After removing the rubber hood stops I needed something for the hood to rest on, I had a couple of shock bushing in my toolbox. I ended up cutting the bushings in half and sitting them over the studs for the hood to sit on and they also provide some resistance against the spring clips.

The rubber bushings worked out well, and should they ever wear out should be easy enough to replace them.
