Nice! I don't think I'd want anything too crazy. The size looks perfect. Have you seen the rhino racks? They have one that's a full 270 degrees!

I've seen those and I wish I understood how people used them. They look super useful if you don't need to access your roof / hatch while it's deployed. I just feel like it would get in the way of everything I need to do! The regular ones like this let me access my doors, hatch, deploy the RTT, etc.

Looks awesome!

I agree! This is perfect, along with the accessories which can be attached to it, you can create another tent if you wanted to! Man, now you're making me want to invest in an awning. :(

Honestly, it's been great. And that add-on is exactly what I want to do - make another tent for sleeping bags or a table or whatever and have it bug-free. They even have floors, so in theory, you could house 4 people with a rooftop tent and an awning room.

Or you could do what "regular" people do and pitch a couple tents :D

Just make a giant tent city, and have the RTT the Castle of the Kingdom watching over for any intruders and neigh-sayers.

Now you're talkin' ;)

Did a quick & easy project today and avoided the 12F temperatures at the same time! Swapped my white fog light bulbs for some H3 yellow bulbs. Took them apart and had them back on the Xterra in ten minutes.

Looking beautiful as always! Did it help when I mentioned not to unscrew those screws all the way?

Haha, thanks guys. My license plate is finally bolted on! After a year of using zip-ties...

These lights are growing on me. For ten bucks, they're not too bright, not too yellow, and not too overbearing. Worked out well.

Got some maintenance done while it was nice out this weekend - replaced spark plugs, aimed the driving lights, replaced a fuse, and tried seafoam for the first time. I'm sold. I can't believe what a difference it made! Idles nice and smooth now.

Getting an alignment and synthetic oil change tomorrow, and then we're off this weekend for a little pavement time to the other side of the state.

Nice! Getting it in tip top shape! I'm about to do the same to mine. I'm ready to find dirt.

Me too! I know you don't have this problem down in KAR-OH-LYE-NUH, but up here in the north, we have to wait for the ground to thaw ;) Got a few trips planned for the spring.

For now, she's in the hands of the Nissan techs.

Did you remove the trim pieces on the doors? Mine are starting to look like crap even after I've already painted them twice now. I wanna rip them off but don't know how the paint will look underneath

Nope, I've never had any! I think that's one of the differences in the trim levels - pretty sure I have an XE and the trim pieces are part of the SE package.

Yeah I've got the XE as well. I may grab a flat blade and see if I can peel them back slowly and see what it looks like underneath. I don't have too high hopes with black paint though lol

Hit them with a heat gun while you do it. Loosens up the glue and works really will on badges, I'm guessing it'll work the same on glued on trim pieces :p

It's a thin piece of double sided tape that holds them on. Just grab some double sided foam from your preferred vendor of choice if you want to reapply. It wasn't horrible on my silver door, but I was more concerned about keeping the trim in good condition than the door.

Nothing new for the X (yet). Been cruising in my new company ride for the last few months. The wife uses the truck as her daily driver until we buy her a Subie wagon this summer.

Focusing all our energy on moving into a bigger house, getting another puppy, and taking some trips this spring and summer with Jack Stilts Jr. :) And the X, of course!

Howdy! Been a while, XN. I've updated Expedition Portal but I've neglected this wonderful side of the Xterra world. Sorry guys :(

This year has been...a rollercoaster. Work is frantic and then comatose in the same week. Jack Stilts Jr. is teething and walking and gabbing. We've moved and we're moving again due to some unforeseen circumstances. We also purchased a new DD - a lovely little 2012 Subaru Impreza 5-speed for the wife. From ExPo:

We've had a little taste of adventure since the spring. We took the whole gang out for memorial day out to our friend's property in northern Michigan, and it was a great time (pictures below are on private property). We were fully loaded - two dogs, a 2-month old puppy, 6-month old baby, wife, rooftop tent, trailer, even a Power Wheels Mustang. I had to do some test fits with the trailer before we headed out - the trailer is a low-rider and the Xterra is far too tall, so I ordered a 12" (a whole foot) drop hitch. I felt like one of those "brodozers" who lift their pickup trucks 6 feet only to have an equally dramatic drop hitch. Anyway, I also replaced the aging stock wiring harness with a new one; both the harness and hitch were from etrailer.com.

Also, I have to say a quick thank you to CVT. Last fall, I noticed there was a hole forming in the cover that had been rubbing against the ladder. I reached out to CVT in hopes that they could replace it, and it took a few months, but they came through. Sent me a brand new one.

Before we bought the Subaru, my wife drove the Xterra daily with the baby. It was not practical, comfortable, or fuel-efficient. She never used the trunk of the Xterra because of the tire carrier. So, as any good husband does, I took the tire carrier off so she could fully utilize it while she drove it. I'll pop it back on anytime it's needed for an adventure, such as prepping for Overland Expo East. Need to do the brakes and a bit of clean up and we'll be good to go.

Miscellaneous product updates:

-The yellow H3 bulbs that were installed in the PIAA fog lights are still burnin' bright. For ten bucks, I'm surprised but grateful.
-The LabRak mount for the ARB awning has been fantastic with the Thule bars. To compensate for the thin roof of the Xterra and the wide profile of the CVT tent, I had to figure out a way to attach the awning to the bars. I shifted both bars over to the driver side so that they stuck out far enough to mount the awning. I still had the security and stability of the rooftop tent centered and bolted to the square bars, but I was worried I wouldn't be able to have both mounted since it was the first time I had used the Thule bars.

We also took a little trip to visit family in northern Michigan, and as much as I wanted to take the Xterra, we opted for the comfort and efficiency of the Subaru :) Most recent of the two:

That's about it for me. However, the growing family has changed my needs since I got the Xterra, obviously. It was just me and the dog! Now there's three humans and three canines. I'm looking at upgrading around tax time next year. Sadly, this means parting ways with my beloved X. Might try to sell it outright, but will most likely end up parting it out. Most of these parts won't fit on the vehicles I'm looking at, which are:

2008-2012 R51 Pathfinder
2003-2006 Sequoia
2003-2006 GX470

Since I'll have less than $10K to play with, I'll probably end up with the Pathfinder, and I'm more than okay with that. I don't have any heavy off-roading needs, so the IFS and IRS on the R51 won't hinder me driving down two-tracks to isolated campsites. I need 3rd row seating with the option to fold them / remove them for more space, and I like the V8 in the Sequoia so I'm going to try to find the unicorn that is the V8 Pathfinder. I'm not in it for the fuel economy; I'm aware that it gets less than 20MPG on the highway, but since the Xterra gets 13 on the highway now (and also struggles to exceed 60MPH), anything is an improvement. Plans for the next dad-mobile are a bumper and all-terrain tires. Plus, now I've got the Subaru to play with :D

I'll stick around either way. I've learned everything I know from XN :)

Welcome back! Lol Was hoping I'd see ya at went this year but it sounds like it would be hard to leave the family. I can say the sequoia is a solid truck. My wife had an 05 and we loved it while we had it. No issues with it just routine maintenance. I hate to see you get rid of the x but I can understand the need for more room.

You cheeky bastard.

Glad things are going well for you. Thanks for the update. Sad to see another 1st gen being sold down, but trust me I understand.

The R51 has been a great daily for us. And even in v6 spec, I strongly recommend it.

Three dags? Nah. That too much dags.

You should come hang out in the whore thread every once in a while. We miss you.

Hahaha, thanks guys. Good to know I was missed. And I miss the XN fam :)

Jay, I very much appreciate your usage of "dags." And I am probably going to end up with the 4.0L Pathfinder solely because there are so few of them here to begin with, much less a decent 5.6L.

Trust me, if I could add on a third row and give the old girl 5 more MPG, I'd keep it. It's going to be a tough day. Damn wonderful family ruined everything. That and dags.

Cool to see you still getting use out of it. I've sort of out grown mine as well. Seems once you ride around in something with horsepower, refinement and luxury it's hard to tromp around in the old Xterra based on nostalgia and offroad ability alone. I think I might pickup a v8 4runner or GX470 in the coming years after suffering with this dire horsepower and poor refinement. I feel it's replacement needs to make up for it and then some with a engine. R51 is a excellent choice the V8 would be magical though I'm sure the 4.0 is leaps over the 3.3. The V6 Toyotas just don't do it for me power wise, just seemed noisy and only adequate. R51 on full coils seems like a great vehicle especially for the midwest which is most public dirt roads instead of technical terrain. Keep us updated even if you decide to move to a newer vehicle.

Hey, I remember you!

Glad to hear you're doing well.

Hey, I'm memorable?! Thank you sir :)

Ben, why is it that we always seem to be on the same page? Kinda weird. Exact same boat here. I love the bucket of bolts, but it's time.

You're going to this? That makes me wanna go even more now haha especially since it's right in my backyard.

Good having you back around, sir!

I'm trying! And by that I mean trying to collect the funds / convince the wife to let me go. Damn adult responsibilities.
