how much travel you going for? total chaos is the company that makes a pre made kit for Xterras, if you can find someone that is willing to use your truck for a guinea pig i'd go for that. the 4k that they charge i don't think its worth the name. they do though make awesome products don't get me wrong. heres the kit

regardless of what or who you go with your going to have to have a TON of fabrication done to it. that kit also doesn't include shocks or if your going to run ressi's or coils. keep an eye on dezertrangers for some 10+ blistein, Fox, SAW, for cheap, you can always have them rebuilt.

if your seriously getting a rear 3link for free i'd buy a DD and seriously start some major fabbing, because once you start its never going to finish lol. i'd love to see an X front and rear LT'd but i don't think it would be worth the money and time. you'd need to keep the SOG a lot lower because of the top heavy factor just like bronco's. we just don't have the width they do.

well first off 1st gen's don't rock coils. so you'll have to start fabbing up for shock hoops, then comes your axle outers etc. 4wd long travel just makes it a lot more work and weight.

and btw the TC kit only gets 12" of travel you can get 12" out of a truck with a mid travel kit. if you do the rear you will lose your storage basically

So, bottom line is, basically its not the best idea to LT an x? That its not worth the amount of money and time you can potentially put into it.

unless you can 100% fab everything yourself and i'm talking about the upper lowers etc i completely agree with you. trust me i looked into it, i was going to give my x to brandon over at BTF fabrication but even he said that too. i'm going with his stuff for my ranger.

And BTF is no joke. Got any pics of the ranger or are you still in the beginning stage?

you know btf? and no no pics, its still in the beginning i'm still working out parts finding stuff etc etc. i did get my hands on a dimple dye, 60ft of dom tubing, bender and a welder lol

and ya brandon is awesome, i wanted to go with camburg but after reading and talking to him myself i probably would only go with one other shop, besides him. "coastal fab works" in the pismo area guy has some gnarly lt stuff if your on instagram follow him, he is making anthony grasses ranger right now, full race beamed ranger, he is trying to finish it for huckfest. kid jumps that single cab thing like crazy.

ya that's the tc kit, you can tell by just looking at it. well you have to do a arms we don't have choice for beams. so there was only one kit and that's it when i was looking at one for mine. like i said above unless you can find someone who can or is willing to help you out, i don't think its worth the time. go get a ranger, taco or full size and do it to one of those. we just don't have the aftermarket parts for lt stuff like i wish we did, i've seen some pretty dope lt fronty's though and they look awesome. a long with the front end you'll have to do glass obviously and figure out if your going to do bypasses or not too.

I have a buddy who owns a prerunner style shop (basically a garage he rented). And has offered to help me build it. He though has also recommended to get something with a bed haha. Although I am determined so we will see..... not sure whether it will happen or not but I'm gonna do my best.....and if not then fronty it is :D

ya like i said if someone is willing go for it. i say tacos/rangers because they literally have an unlimited amount of parts available for them. i prefer truck prerunner over suvs too, i also love how dirty rangers look all drooped out. best of luck man, anymore questions ask in here i love talking about this stuff.

I'm still waiting for people to stop talking about it and just do it. I've considered it many times just at the 4k price a 2nd gen with more HP and cargo seems like a better option. I find the price that they use to be completely outrageous. Could almost engineer you own and pay someone to make them for the same cost IMO.

I'm running the SLR stage 3. Basically UCA's to raise the upper stops and allow a little more travel. Combined with the shock hoops and Fox reservoir shocks it rides somewhat ok. Wish it had coils and a 3-link but meh works ok for the engine it has.

ya the little motor we have doesn't work well. like i said ben idk what these guys would want with long travel for me, its the dezert and dunes. so the more travel i get the merrier. i also agree with making your own, i mentioned above that if they could get with someone it would be better than buying a kit already done your not getting what you can out of it. i saw your front end looks good man! i do wish coils came on the first gens, if we could beam xterra's i'd be in heaven! dirty hookers for days!

I'm with Silverdude on this one. I considered this for my first gen a while back, and we talked it round and round...but nobody has taken the plunge. Dirt King does some long travel stuff for the second gen, but like the total chaos kit for the first gen, it's expensive. making shock hoops work is the least of the issues.

The problem with a prerunner type xterra is weight. Right now I don't like my height and my weight transfer, it's stable. But not as stable and I'd like, I go off camber a lot and I feel like I'm going to tip at any moment. Doing long travel on ifs that's soft enough to transfer weight super easy on something that is very top heavy is kind of a sketchy deal. I'm still in the works of lowering mine constantly trying to find an even balance of clearance and weight distribution. When I rebuild the coilovers I also tuned them a little tougher and so I have a little more up travel than I did, because the front weighs a ton. When it comes time I'm putting 14's up front and running 12's in the rear with a second set of resi shocks front and rear to help out with the weight problems. If you could shave 1000 lbs off the sprung weight and set-up a fully custom front end with 16" travel coilovers and 16" travel remote resi shocks to help stiffen you'll do decent The rear is going to be a tough one, it'll either be a 3 link or move the gas tank and make a cantilever set-up with 12" travel coilovers and 12" travel shocks. You would also need to look into axles. Front is going to have to be RCV custom made ones with the rear being a Hi9 or something close, I don't have personal experience with the H233b(?) but I don't see it running good on 35-37" tires running through stuff at high speed or in the rocks when you find some.
