I just learned this is national preparedness month. What are you going to do to start an emergency preparedness kit? If you have a kit list something more advanced that you are planing on doing to become more prepared.

Here is the government link to ready.gov

I'm going to empty and refill my water storage and get my winter G.H.B.s packed with cold weather supply's and food.

I've finally started working on my medical kit...I've got enough supplies to administer 2 IVs, plus enough splinting/bandaging to last for a while. Hard part is making sure nothing expires. Also put my hatchet in my truck (baby steps).

I guess I need to increase my water storage. We've been having trouble with our local water supply so I guess I ought to step up our reserves.

That's always a good idea. My town is have troubles with the local water supply as well. We can only water the lawn once a week I think. Which makes me wonder why anyone would anyway because even at once a week everyone's lawn looks like poop

I keep getting little things to add to the X from EMS when I get a coupon or voucher. By the way they have a new rewards program and you get a $5 voucher for signing up. Sports Authority has the same thing going on. I have been looking for stuff to go on sale at other sporting goods stores and home and garden centers. Over the last year got no-see-um netting, a Katadyn water filter, soft splint, emergency blanket, poncho, magnesium fire starter, hatchet, snatch strap, paracord and an extra multi-tools(SOG and Leatherman) to go with my Gerber carbon fiber. equip2endure is a good sight for reviews and helpful how to's. There are so many places to get things, that it takes time to research to get the best prices. Got a small generator for storms. Trying to water proof the important stuff on the X. Hard part is finding the time to do it. Need to figure out where the vent is on the clutch, since I noticed it would get a little wet in the big puddles of Wharton.

preparedness:
lets see, I've started down the path of acquiring the stuff to start handloading/reloading
I've got several water sources along with 4 cases of bottled water
I've got roughly 500 rounds stashed for each of my firearms
3-4 days worth of MRE's for the family, or, 3 weeks worth if just me
GHB is packed with 5 clif bars, my .40, with 4 full stacks, wet weather gear, and a set of lightweight ski socks
I need to clear the spot in the garage out for firewood and go get the neighbor to help me cut a load or two, once that's done both houses will have plenty of warmth even if the power and gas go out.
Our sleeping bags (rated for 10 below) are in the house
all firearms have been cleaned and lubed with gun lube made to handle freezing cold

next is to grab some fuel cans, fill em with non-ethanol grade fuel and put some stabilizer in em and get em in the garage too.

well, it was my job to be prepared for 8 years in the army....it's just carried over well for me after becoming free....

even picked up a decent gas mask a while back (us army issue M40, needs a new strap set and a new hood), keeping an eye out for one for the wie, and getting ready to order the baby a positive air pressure filtration system...(think upper body gas mask made for kids that functions by blowing filtered air into the system which blows down across so that they don't have to have something that makes contact and seals around their face like a regular mask does on an adult)

need to get some new filter cannisters ordered too...

that reminds me, if anyone's got any good contacts in the army, and can hook me up with a hood and strap set for an M40 series mask, I'd love you forever ;)
