New to xterra

So I ordered lift blocks and once I get the lift on I will be installing my new bumper and sliders. Now my question is if anybody has fitted a 02 or later axle on the 00 xterra? I found a elocker from a 02 for $300 with 4.9 gearing. It would be wired independently from the 4wd system and able to lock it when in any mode.

This is a wireing diagram for independent wireing of a elocker

What axle are you planning on putting an E-locker in?

I'm assuming you wrote a typo and that you meant to say an elocker from a 05+ Xterra. I have never seen an elocker fitted onto any first gen, regardless of year or axle variation. I'm not saying it isn't out there, but I've never seen one or heard it being done. If you truly found one, and it's already sitting in an axle with 4.9 gearing, you need to make sure your front diff has the same gearing of 4.9 as well.

I thought I had found one but the page won't load now. Would the 05 and up axle mate up without to much troble?

It would be a massive pain in the ass. The rear axles on 05+ Xterras have disc breaks, the wheel bolt pattern is different, and that's just the immediate things I can think of. There's probably axle width differences, mounting complications, gear ratios, etc.

Unfortunately, the ARB is the only option for a 1st gen. The upside is that once you get an ARB you never have to worry about it ever again.

I found the link
http://m.ebay.com/itm/281928101268?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368
It's about $700 cheeper than the ARB

No where in that ad is the word "electronic." I searched. I do see where they state "locker" but it doesn't specifically state there is a locker installed. I think the posting creator is meaning to say "locks into 4x4" which is funny because it's a rear axle, or that it has a LSD in there (which a good chunk of 1st gens do have). But no where in the ad does it explicitly state there is an installed or otherwise electronic locker. There is a very, VERY small chance that the junkyard person was knowledgeable enough to recognize some air plumbing running into the rear axle of that Xterra and ASSUMED it had a locker. Because other there is no way of knowing just by looking at it.

So going back to what Prime said, your only option is an ARB air locker. Sorry bud. Or just completely ignore us all together and buy it. Roll the dice, see what you get. You seem determined to buy it anyways

Yeah. I very much doubt that truck has a locker. And I do have to retract my statement. You can get a Detroit Locker for the rear axle but you have to downgrade to 31-spline axle shafts. So that sucks. Plus a Detroit is non selectable. So that sucks too.

Back in the day nissan refered to the LSD as locked, at least in a couple of spots. Confused some people really well for a while. The other real difference between the two gens is the gearing, they are way different, like not even close. The cheapest way to lock it would be to weld the spiders, brutal but very effective.

I haven't checked but I think mine has a lsd as it squeals in tight turns like the rear is locking.

The easily identifiable way of knowing is Nissan put a little orange or red sticker on the diff saying it was LSD. Obviously, it falls off pretty easy because mine didn't have it on there when I bought it. Another less easy way to know for sure is to jack up the rear of the vehicle and spin the tires. If only one spins, then your open. If both spin, you gotz the LSD

I'll do that when I change the tires out but most of my time has been spent on the wife's can and my motorcycle

So I picked up all the metal and will be finding some time to get out to the shop for some cutting and welding

Found a used factory hitch about 4 miles from my house for $50 saving me alot of money that I can put in to manual hubs but I also need to work out some wireing. I need to find a place to pull brake turn and running lamps from but I want to do that under the hood and build a relay bundle under the hood and run the wiring to the rear with the rear flood lights.

Went to pick up the hitch and they couldn't find it in the warehouse. It had been cataloged in 2012 and was no longer in its place

So I picked up a tjm onboard air compressor a
With a viair 2.5 gallon tank to be mounted in the back under the body along with 25 foot of pvc hose and some fittings. Once I have time I will peel up the carpet in the back and mount the tank under the cargo space but I still need to find a home for the compressor it's self. The regulator will be mounted through the wall in the back so it's easy to reach and it will save some space not having to have the compressor sitting out all the time

You'd be better off mounting the tank under the truck somewhere. The only "under the cargo space" that exists is where stock jack is located. It's not enough room to mount an air tank.

That's what I meant there is a area just to the pasanger side of the dif over the axle next to the gas tank

Now I need rock sliders. I priced out the steel to build them and it came out to about $150 I am wondering if I can sell the stock steps to cover that

People tend to pull them off immediately. As far as offroading goes they're useless. Might find some soccer mom who'll take em who knows.
