2 months ago when I bought all my Magpul furniture it was either black or desert. I wanted OD too, looks like its near impossible to come across.

Forgot to post the link to the barrel. Yeah, I'm sacrificing a little bit on a 1.5MOA barrel, but I have GOT to get this thing running. This barrel will do until I can get better components. Yes, buy once, cry once, but with the unknown certainties of the government looming, I gotta finish it while it's still legal.

You already have a complete gun in the eyes of the gubmint. They can't ban replacement parts like barrels....you will be able to get a high quality one after things settle...

But, where do you see that it's only a 1.5moa?

No, but they can scare the living crap out of people and they are still panic-buying.

I researched the barrel..there were some 1", but the most common was around 1.5.

I think a lot of it was ammo. I found that much of the reviewers were shooting reloads. I'm not saying factory loads are better, but generally they give a better baseline than reloads.

There are so many variables to consider its hard to say what it is. Some of the reviewers may not very good shots. Maybe they aren't using quality glass or optic, it's hard to say. That paired with ammo and other things can make it seem like a less accurate barrel when in reality it may not be.

One of the guys (can't find the link again to save my life) was sent this barrel directly from JoeBob to test. JB still won't divulge who makes them, but I haven't heard any downright negative reviews. It'll shoot, and right now I'm not trying to send rounds 400m downrange, so it'll do for now. I've got to re-orient myself to this platform. Last "AR" I shot was an M16 at Ft Leonard Wood in 03. My unit got M4s about the time I got out.

M4's were the very bane of my existence, we got them as I was leaving too, and everyone's accuracy at the range went to total crap. I had to give so many remedial marksmanship classes it wasn't even funny...

We were one of the last units to get them. When I left, there were still A2s hanging in the racks.

Also, giving a price update on this build:

MSRP on all parts/components purchased so far- $623.16
Price I actually paid (including shipping)- $478.39

This is with MIL/LEO/Fire/EMS discounts, sales, blemishes, etc. I still have a couple more big ticket parts to buy, those being a BCG, sights, and charging handle. Once this thing gets shooting, I'll start the upgrades.

Upgrades will be:

Better barrel
Free-float rail
Optic
Trigger kit
Magpul MOE stock (I HATE this M4 stock, but it'll shoot)

Oh, and I found an OD MOE hand guard on Amazon for like $28 shipped (thank you PRIME), so I should be getting that Friday, along with an Ergo SureGrip in OD. This has been a good week for my rifle! I can see the finish line now.

I don't like the STR, and I'm still not convinced the CTR is "mo bettah" than the MOE.

I wasn't all that impressed with the STR, but, the CTR felt much better than the MOE on my gun, and, most importantly, no rattle.

I want to eventually upgrade from my CTR to the PRS Gen 2....but, for the price, that won't be any time soon...

While pricey I have to throw the UBR out there. Rock solid and an awesome stock. A little heavy though.

As far as finding a BCG goes, I would post a WTB ad on arfcom or m4carbine and I'm sure if you add that it's for your work gun that someone would cut you a deal. Just yesterday someone sold me a bushmaster BCG for $150 shipped because I put on my add I'm a student and can't afford $200+ price gougers (which is the truth). I'm on m4carbine btw and not arfcom.

Ubr? Got a link? I like heavy...heavy means more steady for longer/hunting ;)

Looks good so far! You're lucky you already had the PMAG haha. Maybe I missed it, but have you decided what you are doing for an optic? or are you going irons?

Nis is that a mid or rifle length gas system? I may have missed it earlier in the thread.

If your looking for back up irons, some local gun shops around here have Magpul and Troy flip ups in stock fairly regularly. And if there in stock here I'm sure you won't have problems getting them locally or through the net.

It looks good so far though!

I peeked at her first post and looks like she's going with carbine length.

I asked about optic or irons because I have a colt carry handle that I'm not using, and would get you a heck of a deal on if you needed something since I know you said you're on a tight budget. If you are going RDS or something I'll throw out that primary arms has THIS in stock every now and then. My brother bought one and it seems to be of pretty good quality, especially considering the price. The only other RDS I've used that would be considered a "budget" one is the vortex strikefire- which I really liked. I prefer the green dot over the red, so that hit the spot.

Personally I have a hard time with green illumination during the day

Hell yeah!

So, are you complete now or still lacking parts?

I presume you need a gas block, gas tube, front forend holder, and delta ring? Or do you already have some of those?

Midway has everything you need for an upper, sans bolt carrier. Even then, they get them in stock every other week it seems. I just got forward assist, dust cover assembly, barrel nut, washers, etc (everything EXCEPT the bolt carrier) en route now. Sitting at the post office waiting on Monday to roll around so it can be delivered. :D

I need all of those. I can't find gas tubes in stock anywhere!!!!! I thought I ordered a delta ring when I made my small parts order the other day, but I guess it didn't make it into the cart. Can't figure out which gas block to get (0.75" I know) if I'm going to try to mount a FSB.

I can't find em on any of my places either, sorry.... :(

as far as a gas block goes, I'd actually recommend a rail topped one and mount something like a magpul pop up sight on it, as opposed to a permanent M16/M4 style front sight post. if you decide to go optic and don't need iron sights anymore, you can remove them cheaply and easily, and, no bayonet lug, thus already more compliant with the pending bans should they go through.

Oh, I need a comp/brake, too.

for what it's worth, if I had any clue where my stock one was, I'd mail it to you for the price of shipping.....if you want a great one and don't mind the noise level that comes with it, I absolutely LOVE my TTI Eliminator. I can drop 3 rounds within a second and not have enough rise to worry about...but, it's loud as hell...like, those 3 rounds will leave my ears ringing for a long time without ear plugs.

I GOT A GAS TUBE! Thank you Midway!

I know I just bought the FSB, but I've decided to go a different route. Got a single railed gas block on the way. Been researching sights, and I like the style of the Troy front sight http://store.troyind.com/Front_Fixed_M4_BattleSight_Black_p/ssig-fbs-fmbt-02.htm, just wish it was a folder. I haven't perused their site too much, so they may have a folder with that style. I haven't decided on a rear yet.

The upper receiver itself is complete, sans bolt carrier. I had one in my cart the other day but they sold out before I could finish checkout.

I've decided on a brake/comp, but I'm just going to get something like a birdcage to get me by until I can afford it. After dinner, I'll update the OP with parts and prices, etc.
