ya i figured it would best to just take it off, then when the letter from the state comes in the mail, put the damn thing back on.
also, would you happen to know it any other states are like that?
It's pretty safe to say that if it's legal in one state, it's absolutely illegal here in Massachusetts.
Last time I got my truck inspected, I had to re-install my stock wheels and tires and front mudflaps to pass. I was running just a front sway bar then, they didn't care that the rear wasn't there because it's a solid axle in the rear. Independent suspensions must have sway bars here.
Next time I'm due (June 2012...) I'll be crossing my fingers real hard. Those wheels and tires have long since been sold, and the front mud flaps won't work with my current wheels and tires, and my front sway bar is busted and hasn't been on the truck for months.
Massachusetts will fail a vehicle for damn-near anything they can find. Sway bars, mud flaps, ball joints, pinhole exhaust leaks, bumper height, door height, headlight height, window tint, exhaust volume, tires that stick out too far to the sides, the list goes on and on. The great state of Massachusetts is the reason that I can only lift my X 2.8" to remain legal, but the guys with the monster cab F350's can jack their ish to the sky and remain legal (wheelbase x wheel track divided by 2200 = maximum lift height). That lift height law is any kind of lift, suspension, body, even taller tires. Yes, if truck "A" is allowed 3 inches of lift, and comes stock with 30's, and you cut the fenders and slap some big ol' 37's on that pig, you'll be 3 1/2" taller than stock, and therefore will fail for being 1/2" over the lift limit. Absolute and total BS. But I digress...
