P0507- High Idle issues

So, took my X to have some maintenance completed before I head out of town next week. One thing they did was a TB cleaning. After I picked it up from the mechanic I noticed it was running really odd. I thought well it is most likely because of the cleaning, it will work itself out. Well, now I am a little concerned since I have drove nearly 300 miles since yesterday and the SES light is on, idle at Park is still almost 1500 RPM and in drive pushing right at 1000RPM, also when braking the whole vehicle lunges forward while downshifting through each gear. Just acting completely out of the ordinary. I have seen that I need to complete a relearn on the throttle but wanted to see if anyone else has any input on this.

i had that same problem. and i believe it was my throttle position sensor. was like a 20buck part but you have to set it with amps. which i didn't know. is your gas mileage worse too?

Yeah, it seems a little bit worse since they completed it. I am going to try the relearn and see if that helps. If not, I'm just going to take it back and have them fix it cause I cannot be driving like it is now. Really getting on my nerves. ha

You have to be really careful cleaning the throttle bodies on the 2nd gens. If you search over on thenewx.org, someone over there may be able to help you as the issue has come up before. That's the best that I can recommend.

yeah, well I just tried the relearn.. That would be a no go. I followed everything to a TEE. still the same. I called the place I had it worked on and told them I was bringing in to them at 7am Monday morning and it better be fixed because I cannot deal with this mess. It's just crazy.. The guy says, " Well, on the plus side, it cannot be anything big. Probably just a simple fix." Ugh

I don't know anything about codes but I do know that it's normal for an Xterra to idle low then high, then low. It does a little dance when you're sitting at a stand still.

It shouldn't be 1500 high during warmer temps. It may start there, but it should level off at 750 fairly quickly.

Any time you clean the throttle body, you need to do an idle relearn.
At the dealership, it's called an idle air volume learn, and it's all done through the computer. I'm not aware of how to do it without a proper scanner, as I've never had to.

Make sure your mechanic doesn't start messing around with the actual throttle control motor, as there should be no reason to adjust it from the factory setting under normal conditions, but I have seen shops that don't have the correct equipment try this method. It doesn't work.

Just wanted to keep everyone updated on this. So, last night I had a buddy of mine go through the relearn process that can be found in the service manual, page EC-89. We DID get this to work properly. So, if anyone has this happen, the relearn will work just got to be awesome at the process and consistent. Now, she is idling right at 650 and runs great. Going to forward this info over to the shop that worked on it just in case someone else comes in there with a Nissan as I learned it is a common procedure on ANY Nissan that has to be completed after the throttle body is cleaned.
