I forgot to tell y'all this because we were so busy while it was going on. The child that was being held in the bunker a few weeks back was in my departments territory. We were there for fire suppersion and EMS throughout the entire ordeal. Got to work with some FBI and marshals. Was a terrible ordeal for the kids involved but we got alot of experince with inncident command and what not. It was interesting seeing how all the different agencies worked togather.

EMT-B, Volunteer Fire Fighter, Surgical Technologist

Been doing EMS for 8 years since I was 16 years old. Learned in the only high school based EMS program in the nation. My mentor was a pioneer in the US EMS system as it stands and did special work to set up an EMS system in the nation of Jordan in the early 1980's. I could probably dig up the JEMS article on him if there is any interest. I was a paid EMT-B for a city level ambulance department and a theme park as well. I volunteered for a lot of special duties as well like Bike EMS. I was also a volunteer EMT at the same time and I still maintain contact with that company - I run 911 shifts when I drive to visit my parents so they rarely see me. That's all in PA. I took the first half of paramedic school as well (couldn't complete the course due to military obligations, had to withdraw, it really sucked). I am currently waiting for the VA EMS Dept to stop kicking my reciprocity paperwork around so I can get my VA EMT-B and join a company. I am probably going to join VA Beach EMS,

Fire for 5 years although I don't know much about it. The local fire and ems companies we're separated the fire dept had good old boys club syndrome. I never did get proper training fire wise despite being in burning structures before. I would love to be a better Vol Fire Fighter if only I could find a decent company that actually provides training to it's members. I have to look around VA. I got stiffed by Hampton Roads Fire because I couldn't attend their fire school - they couldn't seem to understand that my military on the job training (CDC classes/tests) was the first priority.

I've been a surgical technologist in the USAF for 2.6 years. This has nothing to do with 911 but to be honest it improved my BLS skills 100%. I know anatomy and physiology like the back of my hand and I'm able to get way better histories. I'm able to engage with patients a lot easier than I could in the past to get to the roots of problems.

Working on CPR Instructor in the USAF now. Took months of waiting to get into the very limited and rarely held class. Slated to complete that and get that certification June 24th and 25th.

Volunteer fire & rescue in Arlington, VA. Most of our active volunteer members stopped riding after responding to the Pentagon on 9/11 and spending several days doing SAR (my chief was one of them). A group of about 10 of us started training in January and are helping rebuild the volunteer organization to supplement the career guys on technical rescue and EMS. I'm also getting involved with a mountain SAR group. It's a very different environment than my day job, which is one of the reasons I enjoy it.

Thanks. General Assignment which covers just about everything. I was in an Anti Crime Unit for 5 years before I got made last year. The suit and tie thing isn't for me. I love running around on the street and miss it. Bidding my time and hoping to get back into Narco game again.

Shenandoah Mountain Rescue Group (smrg.org) based in Vienna, VA. I haven't had a chance to finish my application yet, so I don't have all the specifics, but it sounds like they do regular classroom training along with weekend field exercises.

Former Police Officer (product of layoff), Now Im an EMT-B working in the Capital City of CT. We have the second highest call volume in New England. I love it! I also Volunteer for a town adjacent to mine. I have a very strong desire to take this EMS thing further and get into Wilderness EMS and Technical Rescue, with anticipation in moving to a state where it would be more utilized. Think Southwest, Pacific Northwest, or even northern New England.

Forensics Investigator for environmental issues, and Disaster Response...for decades. Was in research prior to that.

Now that I'm an old fart, I just do it on a consulting/when called basis.

Taking NREMT next year. Anyone know of any good resources to study. Especially ones that cater to people who are not fresh out of a EMT course?

To validate my new reciprocity in VA I have to take the NREMT and do some sort of practical despite being out of the classroom for nearly 10 years.

Yeah, I have to go there. I did an online search and there's thousands of books but most are just aimed at EMT-B. I need the NREMT specifically.

That and I'm certifying for Certified Surgical Technologist this year too. Need a book for that too.

So many certifications, so little time :weep:

The NREMT is cake. If you can't pass it, you have no business with an EMT license. Trust me on this. TN is the same as VA, we require the NREMT (which is the only test you take, there isn't a "state" test. They feel if you can pass the NREMT then you're good.)

I'm about to make the jump to AEMT..kinda excited about it, actually.

i don't get the point in that, if you want to go advanced get your medic license and do ALS.

New to the site, but figured I'd add myself here.. NC certified FF. Working on Technical Rescuer, and MAYBE EMT... not a big fan of band-aid calls... I work for a department near Charlotte, NC.

Lol my confidence on EMS tends to effect my attitude greatly, and therefore my performance. I don't get the chance to run EMS often so I lack experience there. Hopefully, I'll get with the program someday.
