I recently purchased my 1995 LSi 3/5 for $420 with 210,340miles on the odometer. I bought her to offset my gas hog Nissan Xterra named Emma.

When I picked her up, she didnt start or idle. A few days later I had her starting on her own. The next day I picked up a new PCV valve and some B-12 chemtool and got her to idle. Ran a compression check and check plug gaps. Plugs were all at 0.037 and compression was at 110/65/35 which mean a rebuild is in store. I found that the rear fender wells are rusted and those will have to be repaired. Once every of those issues are remedied I will start actually building the geo metro that will turn heads.

This doesn't look promising

This would explain the mud

Cleaned as much of the dirt and mud out of the engine bay as I possibly could with the garden hose and a can of Gunk. Which yielded great results.

I went ahead and pulled the timing belt cover off to confirm cam timing was on. Also stuck a timing light in the bay ad found that the car is running 14* advanced which is making it run... BARELY. More reasons to get this engine torn down and rebuilt. After I washed the bay down, I inspected the frame horns. They look very clean and still very solid. I did miss some of the dirt down lower...uhhgg

I still have a long ways to go before this car is "Safe" to drive on the road, but hopefully have her good to go within the next few weeks.

Oh man, a strut tower brace on a 3-cyl Metro...now I've seen everything.

Kidding aside, I will follow this with interest. Cool little cheapo project. Me gusta.

Im waiting for payday as of right now. Gotta get the licensing and pick up a battery so I can get this car into the shop and get those holes fixed. Then comes the goodies:d

Try pouring some 2 stroke oil in the cylinders with low compression, then let it sit over night and crank it with no plugs a few times the next day, then toss plugs in and let it idle, once it stops smoking try a compression test again, rings could just be stuck and this can free them, you can also pour restore in the oil.. It usually brings compression up

I will give that a try, currently waiting on registration and insurance before I can drive so it sits behind my house

Got some goodies in the mail today. I read that a Honda Civic STS is a near perfect match to the factory shifter. I went ahead and ordered a lever and knob off Ebay and received them today and couldn't wait to get them installed.

Here is everything fresh out of the wrapper. Green anodized Short throw shifter for 88-00 Civic and variants, and a Titanium anodized heavy Type-R Shift knob. Everything was decent finish, much worth the $17.38 I paid for them.

Had to do some filing of the lower bushing carrier to fit the end of the new lever in, but 15minutes with a metal file I had it enlarged enough to pop it through. Got everything installed and realized I dont have a 5/16" bolt to go through the linkage. I will grab one tomorrow at work and throw it in over my lunch. Civic shift levers DO fit, a little loose, but nothing a second snap ring below the top one cant fix.

Finished the install of the STS. Had to get a 5/16" bolt and washers from work. I got home tossed it in and beat the weather to the finish. Everything shifts into gear fine, has a positive feel, much less slop.

Sits a little lower. Not a big deal for me.

Didnt work today because I had a 730am Dr apt. 2 hour drive away. I got home about 12pm and I instantly got to work on the Metro.

Todays accomplishments were to get the car running after an overnight piston soak with MMO, Clean carpets thoroughly, and reinstall seats so I can take it into work and fix the rust holes.

Here is a Before and After of my carpet... pretty self explanatory, had no idea how long or what caused those stains. I used a product called Lifter-1 and it worked wonders.

I then got the seats back in, vacuumed them off really good and tried to clean some of the nasty gunk of the slide rails. You can also see the height of the Short throw Shifter I installed.

After I got it all closed up, I took it for a quick test drive down the highway and back. Alot of smoke from the residual MMO burn off, but halfway through the drive it cleared up and seems healthier than ever.

Something is missing...

Oh this is why! Cut a bunch of the rubber out and filled with polyurethane. Shift bushing tommorow.

Well, time to get back at it. Ive been storing the geo for about 8 months at my brothers house while I was moving, he called me the other day and told me I need to get it out of his garage because he was getting ready to move. So today I borrowed the car trailer from work and loaded Taylor up and brought her home.

Now what are your devious plans for such a glorious vehicular made from the compact car heavens you ask? Thats simple.... Gambler 500 2017.

The current plan is to rebuild the motor, add a smaller spacer lift on top of the struts, install metro sedan springs or possibly geo tracker springs, larger tires and wheels, a small ATV GT15 turbo, snorkel, stupid amount of rally lights, and a trophy truck inspired spare tire carrier. Impractical is key with the design, however with 4 grown men crammed into a tiny geo metro is already quite fitting
