TBar newbie

After looking though older posts of front suspension sagging, I am thinking I need to adjust my TBar so my front is loaded lifted 1".

It's a 2001, 4wd

Keep in mind, the picture is an exaggeration because it's not parked on level concrete. I know I do have more sag up front compared to other stock Xterras from that year. I want to get the truck back to stock, I don't care about leveling..anyway, I'm not sure where to start as I have no experience with suspensions.

I understand there is supposed to be some sag up front, that's the design from the manufacturer, but how much? Should the step bars be level with the ground, what's a good reference for stock settings?

Thanks in advance for your input!

From the front and rear of the bottom of the step, to the ground, should be ~ 1.5" difference.

The front, measured as above, should be about 1.5" lower than the rear. You need to measure all 4 points, and, the drivers and passenger side should be similar, but not necessarily identical, say within a 1/4", with the drivers side typically being the higher one, to compensate for the driver's weight.

This is best done with a half tank, but a full to half tank is OK for most purposes.

So, go to the d-side, front end, of the d-side step, and measure to the ground....then, go to the rear of the same step, and repeat, then repeat for the two ends of the P-side step.

Go under the front of the rig, and look at you upper control arm (UCA) to bump stop gap....measure the size of the gap/take pics from a few angles. (Passing something through the gap with a known thickness, as a feeler gauge, works best)

Write the numbers down, and report back...with pics if possible (We like pics).

:D

NOTE: ALL trucks (Not just Nissans) come from the factory with a nose down attitude. They are designed to handle, brake, carry cargo, and get better mpg that way.

If you have 1 - 1.5" of rake, you're probably fine as is. If you have more than the 1.5", rotating the t-bars to get a higher front ride height is the answer.

The X has the built-in adjusters just for this purpose. Of course, on a 2001, the rear may sag too, but, there's no adjuster for that. People sometimes use additional leaves (Add A Leaf or AAL) or longer rear shackles, to bring the butt back up.

If you want to get a 1.5" suspension lift for the cost of the shackles alone, we can tell you how to do that, and, as long as you might want to adjust the t-bars anyway...it might be a great idea if a small but almost free lift interests you.
