Torque (Android App)

Good Morning All,

Just wondering if anyone every used the Torque app on their phone. I picked up the Bluetooth OBDII dongle and bought the app on my phone. Maybe 26 bucks total for both. Its a pretty cool app. I had a ScanGuage II but the screen is a little messed up and this is a cheaper alternative to that. Plus it appears to do way more. I haven't had a lot of time to mess with it so far, but I plan to this weekend.

If anyone uses it I'd love to hear what you have to say about it, or even see some pics of the screens you are using on it.

I have it and it's pretty nice. The one thing I really wanted that it won't do is monitor transmission temperature. I have one screen for the highway where I use it for actual speed (33's have my speedometer slightly off), fuel details and monitoring a few things and another one for off road where I have the pitch and roll angles displayed.

Yeah I pretty much have that "offroad" screen as well. And I noticed it doesn't monitor a few things. Oil temp as well so far from what I've seen. Is there an AVG MPG's for the fuel? Only thing I saw was just "MPG" and it doesn't account for coasting or going downhill. Throws off the MPG's. Although on the highway or consistent gas pedal use it does show a good average of what you are getting. Tonight and this weekend I'll try and read up on it. I know their website has some forums so I bet there is alot of talk on there.

The reason it won't do transmission temp is because the Xterra doesn't have a temp sensor in the transmission. Plug your OBDII dongle into a car/truck that has the sensor and it will read it no problem. Been using Torque for a couple years now, on both Android and iOS.

I just downloaded it a couple days ago and got my OBDII adapter yesterday, so I haven't had time to fine-tune all the settings just yet.

Question though, for those here with more experience with the app: I'm not really clear how I'm supposed to compensate my tire size...the app doesn't ask you your specific tire size? Or am I just missing it? It asks for 0, -1, or 1, but what does that actually mean? I'm running 31/10.5/15's over the stock size of 265/65/17, so I set the Torque tire setting to ???

Been using it for 2 years. I love it. I've finally gotten the speedo synched to where it's accurate per my GPS ground speed.

My bad, guys. Torque never did officially surface for iOS. I used a beta version on a jailbroken iPhone a year or so ago. I guess they never did release it in the App Store. As it stands, Torque is Android only.

Anyone else using Torque Pro? Would love to see some screenshots of the gauges you have running. Also is there any custom settings I should know about. My MPG's seem a little off. I still don't know the in's and out's of this app yet.

I don't trust the MPGs, especially with larger than stock tires. Also, the torque and HPs I don't buy, either. I've got the clinometers on a page, but I've never calibrated my phone's gyro, so it's all out of whack.

Next time I've got it running, I'll grab another screen shot.

Yeah the MPG's to me are weird for some reason. Sometimes I think they are spot on (factory spec anyway) and sometimes it shows I'm way above factory spec. I'm still stock tire size so I can rule that out. On the Highway sometimes it says I get like 26 mpg's. It can't be right. As for HP. I have that one as well. I never really jumped on the X hard yet but I saw the HP's get up into the mid 150's. again not sure how accurate this is. I just figured i am missing something in the setup.

In order to get everything as CLOSE as possible, go take your truck to a truck stop and jump on the scales with a FULL tank of gas. Don't "off load" equipment/gear. Get your accurate weight, then put that into the app. With a full tank of gas, my truck weighs in at 4240lbs, which is ~200lbs more than spec'd curb weight. That includes me (150lbs), gas, and a metric ton of crap in the back.

Yeah weight was off in the app itself. i fixed that just now. I'll go with around what you have for yours adding my actual weight in. I'll see what this does for me on my ride home from work today.

Used it on the way home and got around 18.5 MPG's which seems about right. Roughly about 30 miles home from work. Everything seemed spot on. All back country roads for the most part till I get into town with more traffic. Gonna run it all the time now to see how it goes. Definitely seemed to be better though.

What BT dongle are you guys using? My only problem with using this full time is that I use the BT for actual phone calls.

Looks pretty damn cool though.

The dongle is always plugged in for me usually and I also use BT on my phone for calls. Not an issue. Both always seem to work.

This... Plus I run pandora thru the bluetooth on my stereo at the same time too with no issue.

I thought I'd give this a try. My gas mileage had dropped since I installed the K&N Apollo and got it all hooked up to the snorkel. The first day I tried it out one of the things I checked was MPG. During the day when it was around 63 degrees I was getting 10.2 MPG. Later that night the temperature dropped to 37 degrees and my MPG dropped to 5.9! I started using the app to check all kinds of things and discovered my intake air temp was reading 118 degrees. I had forgotten to relocate it when I changed out the factory air box and it was dangling in the engine compartment behind the radiator. The poor MAF readings must have shown a serious engine load trying to stay at the correct temp and thinking the incoming air was already that hot. Anyway, the IAT sensor is back in the incoming air stream and my MPGs are back up nicely.

YIKES! If you correct the speedometer difference in the app, it will effect your MPG in the app as well. Ask me how I know.

I got the OBD speed matched to GPS speed today. I had to correct by 1.09 to make the numbers match. I'll be checking MPGs based on GPS miles driven divided by gallons used for a few tanks to see if I need to calibrate the MPGs in Torque.
