X Marks the Spot - What Is It Worth? - 2004 XE

Long-time owner, first time member. I have a 2004 Xterra XE with the World Championship Package. 182K miles. I joined to get a good feel for what I might get in a private sale. Starts like a champ, runs well, strong drivetrain, blows cold air, clean interior, great tires. The radiator leaks and it's throwing a code that I need to replace the catalytic converter. I've seen some CRAZY listings for vehicles in far, far, far worse shape for as much as $2700, which I find dubious. I am the only owner. I bought my Xtrerra at David Peacock Nissan in Houston in October 2004. A whole lot of Boy Scout camping after a drive in this vehicle.

Do you have any pictures? I bet a couple would help and we could get real close. Any rust?

I think $2700 would be pretty easy to obtain, honestly.

Sight unseen, even with that code, I'd list it at $3500. IF it had no codes, no leaking radiator, I'd list it at $5000 and would haggle down. Good, clean used cars, especially one owner ones are hard to come by these days. The junk ones are bringing nearly $2500 it seems and yours sounds a better than those.

Wow, thanks for the input. No rust. The car has been in the Houston area for 100% of the miles, other than weekend road trips around Texas, and never the beach. I have attached a few photos if anyone wants to take a look. All the haul-away guys are quoting below $500 but I am seeing listing at dealers and eBay, etc. for many times that. Thanks for the reply, much appreciated.

Those haul away guys are insane. I have bought and sold seven (well six, I have the seventh) first gen Xterras, and I look at their values all the time. That is not a $500 Xterra (although Ill buy it right now for $500 hahah) and it's nicely outfitted one as well, with the Rockford System. It looks very clean in the pictures. Looks like one headlight was replaced, ever been wrecked? Is it drivable with the cat code, or is it misfiring?

Yeah, I stand by what I said. I'd think you could pull $3000 as is easily. Without issues, I'd have no issue listing that at $5000.

Cat code makes it harder, thats not a super easy repair, depending on which it is.

My son was a student at Texas A&M and was driving it up there when he hit a deer back in 2014. The doe collided with the left front quarter panel, which was replaced along with the headlight and related assembly. It was repaired via insurance at Service King in Cypress, TX., so the repair will turn up on a CarFax report. Totally drivable. No misfire. Oil has been changed every 3000 miles, obviously it burns some oil now due to mileage. I will likely do a private sale listing via eBay or Autotrader or something. I also have a long-time acquaintance who used to run used car lots until he tired of doing his own repo jobs - I'll ask him for some direction, too.

I think private sale is absolutely your best bet. Pull your plates and that window sticker before it leaves and send it. If you have social media like FB, it seems Marketplace is where things are bought and sold these days. Although you'll have to weed out tons of morons and lowballers.

Any idea what you'll ask?

Also, I was just curious what actual code shows up when you run it.
