A little backstory, my ex-mother-in-law has had this truck since her father passed away over 8 years ago and it's just been sitting, rotting away. He had been in a front end collision several months before he passed. I've been trying to get the truck from her for about 7 years or so and she kept saying she wanted to keep it to tow her boat aka skiff that had also been sitting for about sitting for almost 10 years. Her mother (who technically owned the truck) said I could just have it years ago but she wouldn't budge on it so I just gave up and let her do what she wanted with it. So about a year ago, she decided to actually do something with it. She replaced the front end clip and added a new radiator and had all the fluids changed and fuel lines replaced. Finally, I got the go ahead to just come get it. So I got a U-Haul Trailer and went and got it.

It's a 1989 Dodge D-100 with a 5.2 318 V8 2WD Single Cab. Only has 49,090 miles on it. When I got there, put a new battery along with some new gas and some sea-foam and it fired right up. Going to have all new fluids again and new plugs and what not. Definitely needs some new tires lol but I can get some used ones pretty cheap. They are 205/75R15's. It's not real pretty right now but it will be when I'm done w/ it. I'll be taking the ugly grandpa camper shell off. Definitely throw some paint on there and get it all cosmetically buttoned up.

Oh yea, I mean I'd really like to drop in a V10 viper engine in it lol. It's got plenty of room for it.

This morning took of the front 2 tires and the brakes look brand new! I was afraid the studs were rusted shut but they came off pretty easy with some PB Blaster. Next will be to change out all the wires and spark plugs and air filter. Gotta flush the radiator (which is also brand new) but has a little corrosion in it.
Wanna go with something like this... Without the hideous hood scoop though. Kind of a muscle truck but still be able to use it like a truck.

Thanks! Had a buddy do some work on it today. Overall the truck looks to be in great shape mechanically. Camper shell is off and just waiting for it to stop raining so I can deep clean the interior and exterior.

Haha, yea it looks worse that it was. Those are basically new so they should be ok. May have taken a year or so off their life though lol.

Well, did a lot yesterday. Changed Oil, Rear Fluid, Ethenol-Free gas, Spark Plugs and picked up a new Coolant Overflow Reservoir off an old Chevy from a junkyard. Tore out the nasty carpet and cleaned the interior. Threw some used tires my buddy had on there just to get it from his house. Runs like a champ still. The A/C blow but it's not cold. Probably low on freon but noticed that the clutch fan isn't spinning like its supposed to. The wiper motor also doesn't work so I ordered that part today. For the most part, the parts are pretty cheap, nothing too expensive. Inspected the rust spot too, it's pretty bad. I've got to think of a temporary fix for it. Was thinking about some spray foam since it all has to be cut out anyway, just to keep it from getting any worse and leaking into the cab. The tailgate handle must have broken because I can't get it to open again since the first time. Should be an easy fix (knock on wood). Noticed too that it doesn't have a radio, which isn't a big deal but that's not important right now. Most of the fittings and hoses will be replaced too. The belts look good, no cracks in them or anything.

I think this piece here is supposed to spin when the A/C kicks on...

Nasty Carpet

I'll have to take the seat out and sand it all down and probably get some POR type stuff and paint it. Then dynomat. I think the carpet can be salvaged with a good deep cleaning but only time will tell. It was pretty soaked.

Also has a big rust spot on the middle of the roof. Hasn't eaten thru it so I'll sand that down and shoot it with some primer.

Oh, also ordered a Haynes Repair manual off eBay for $15 and ordered a LMC Catalog. Also got a headlight from the junkyard for $5. Looks brand new. The old one is holding water but still works to my surprise. Can't get it off though, the little screws are rusted on it. Also going to have to get a torch and fix the front bumper mounts. They got bent up from the accident. I will probably have to torch it and try and bend it back into place.

An idea for the interior, look at the stuff they seal porch roofs with at home dept or lowes. It comes in a roll and you can peel it off and lone the floors with it. Not as good as dyna mat but its cheaper. I used it in an old civic i had to keep the roof from flexiing and vibrating when i had 4 12's in it. Worked loke a charm.

I'm guns try and fill it up with freon and if that doesn't make the air cold then I'll know that it needs to be replaced. It spins freely when off but when it's running the pulley spins but that outside piece is hard to move.

Got some basically new tires off CL for cheap. They are Goodyear Wrangler 215/75 R15. I really wanted to go to a 265 or so but these were only $200 and basically brand new. Also, got my wiper motor and haynes manual in the mail yesterday.

Also put on some new temporary mirrors, mine were both busted. Tried to replace the headlight today but the screws are so rusted and stripped. My dad decided to help and by help I mean rip the entire thing out lol. So now I have to replace the Metal housing ring and the adjustment screws, which are fairly cheap and probably needed replacing anyway.

While I was getting the tires mounted, I was chatting w/ my mechanic, he said a bearing is going out in the alternator which is making the noise. Also had them check the A/C system and he said that the clutch is moving freely so it's not locked up but there's no power going to the system. It blows hot air but its not engaging it. He said it could be a a fuse, relay, switch or the entire system. He's going to try and look at it for me when he gets some free time.

Well a little update but now much. Put the new headlight in, headlight rings and new trim screws and new bulbs. Attempted to assemble the wiper assembly with utter failure. Couldn't get the new bushings on no matter how hard I tried. Now, I did notice that the headlights look identical but different when lit. Also, the pass side turn signal doesn't blink when indicated. It's a new bulb and everything so it should work. The rear taillight also blinks when indicated. There's also a lot more coming out the back side under the hood than the pass side.
