Sweet. I wish mine was a hard top.
We were originally going to go with a soft shell (OVS Nomadic), but the more I thought about it, I realized the biggest point of the RTT for us is speed. We wouldn't be saving a ton of time with that design over our ground tent. And it was still about 1700 bucks. For a couple hundred more, we scored this one, which should be WAY faster to setup and teardown. Granted, it's a little smaller, but it'll only be cramped until we kick the kiddo out, and make her sleep in her own tent.

Or the vehicle.

If I like having one on the X, I may look at picking up s smaller one for myself, but we'll have to see. That's a lot of money to throw around just to sleep on the rig. Especially when sleeping in the rig works just fine, and is super quick to deal with if I'm solo.

I'm also planning on picking up some bed bars for the fronty. That way, if I want to take the truck, I can move the tent over to it relatively easily, and take that.

I still think a trailer is the way. Even with a RTT. Mount the tent to the trailer. All your camping gear is in the trailer. Take either truck. Don't have to break everything down to move.
That's the idea. It also has all of our stuff in it, all the time.

I don't likely need the trailer though, if it's just me. Who knows though. I just need to get it to a usable state, and then I can start tweaking it to make it work better for us.

Had the welders put a few beads back where the teeth are missing on the pinion and I ground them into "shape" with a cutting disc on an angle grinder. Then we filed the teeth down on the bull gear till they would mesh with the pinion, and just used the crushed bearing as a bushing after loading it with grease.

They are putting it back on the valve tonight. I guess we'll try again in another 18 months.... LOL

I think if you need to have one, it should be a hard top. That'd be the only thing I'd consider buying.
Because of my size, the only hard top that would work for me is over $4k and my current tent was just under $1500. That was my main reason for getting the one I did. Especially at the time I bought it because the wife had just been furloughed due to Covid. But other than the size when closed I love my tent.

I would like a trailer ultimately, especially if it could do kayaks and the tent. On a trailer though I’d no longer care about soft top vs hard top.

I'm trying. Beer is helping. Almost sleep time.

Tomorrow I have to deal with some stuff around here.

Saturday I need to get brakes on the Kawasaki and the gas tank skid back on the Xterra.
Ya know, I tried looking for broken quads around here. Holy shiat. Cheapest thing was still $3k that didn't run.

I totally get it. My original plan was to go soft shell, due to the size you can get. The OVS Nomadic 4 is HUGE, and would fit 4 people with room to spare. But the more we thought about it, the more we figured something speedy to setup and take down made more sense. We're planning on doing a trip along the entire west coast probably next year, which will involve moving everyday, and dispersed camping as much as humanly possible.

Speaking of the tent....got it on the X. What a pitch that was. It's definitely not staying on there, as I can't mount the arb awning, since I can't get to the bolts on the front bracket. I can get the privacy awning on there though.

Looking forward to trying it out tomorrow. I'll post some pictures tomorrow.

I'm only a 3rd of the way through this movie. I like the characters. I like the cast. I like the cinematography.

I completely buy him as Batman. I don't buy him as Bruce Wayne.
