I think the only time that would ever be offered from Nissan would be if you took over the company. Im all for it, but i have a feeling they're going to "pussify" the xterra if they do make a 3rd gen

They all have pussied up all SUVs. Look at the land cruiser.

Freaking fuel prices have killed all the fun.
And now the CAFE bs..

As much as I want the Xterra to continue on, I'd much rather see it discontinued than be made into some watered down version. If I'm able to save up any decent amount of money for future Xterra plans, it will be used as a down payment for a gen 3 if they surprise us with a worthy successor, or put away for rejuvenating the one I have now if they don't. I think the same amount of money that would make a good down payment would also fund some soft of interesting turbo diesel swap once my mighty 3.3 is all used up.

I'm holding out hope until the word comes directly from Nissan but I have to admit I'm not very encouraged when I look at other markets and see what the once impressive Patrol has become.

We I hate to post this but I have been informed that there will be no Xterra in 2015.
Government CAFE BS is forcing Nissan like many other Auto makers to kill any car or truck that doesnt help meet the federal
MPG standards. I guess the 16-20MPGs the Xterra hit doesnt help that 30s the company needs to reach.

Not looking great for the Frontier either... Sad times..

Sad times indeed.

But I would gladly remember the Xterra for what it is now than see some sissified redesigned Xterra like the Pathfinder though.

Still sad though.

Which begs the question: Why move the Xterra to Canton, only to kill it a year later? How does that make business sense?

Smyrna is all unibody and canton in body on frame and some Altima

Canton - Titan,Xterra,frontier,Altima,NV,nv200,armada
With them killing off Xterra and frontier it frees up space for murano which will be built in canton and sentra

Smyrna - Main Altima, Maxima, leaf, rouge, pathfinder, QX60,

Smyrna is still stamping Xterra and frontier..
I heard juke is coming to Smyrna too

so if the x and frontier are gonna disappear, what does that mean for the titan and armada? theres no reason for the armada to stay in the line-up.

I assume the titan is staying since its slated to get a cummins diesel or is that not gonna happen either?

Armada has become a large soccer mom mobile, so as long as they buy them, tricked out to the nth degree, it'll stick around.

Large profit per on the armada.. And when the Titan gets a gen 2.. So will the armada..

ugh, guess I need to fire off some hate mail, there isn't a single Nissan right now I would realistically purchase (won't pay that much for a 370z). Of the families 4 nissans i'd like to replace 2 of them in the next 1-2 years. They've had 10 years to do something with the gen 3 xterra to improve gas mileage, instead they made ugly useless jukes and rogues that I never actually see on the road.

As much as I fully expect to be pummeled for suggesting it, a hybrid power plant in an Xterra would result in a boost in fuel economy. And as long as they were able to mate it to a petrol engine that still made over 200bhp it wouldn't be any worse off in the power department.

As a rule, aren't the gas mileage ratings imposed by the government an average over the entire model line that a manufacturer produces? IOW, the more hybrids and higher MPG performing petrols that a company makes, it gives them leeway to make a big fuel hungry truck or two and still be above average.

Yeah it's over the whole brand..

From what I have heard and read it's like this.
Why build 2 trucks that get the same fuel mileage. Both frontier and Titan avg about the same right now.. And you really can throw Xterra in that same mix. It's basic math.. 3 trucks that avg 16-20 pull down the 12 others that don't.
What's really scary is where the trucks as a whole are headed. I forget the date, but trucks will have to avg 30mpg soon. That's why Ram is doing 8 speed ATs. You are about to see pussed down trucks.. And if IOU would like a truck that will pull.. Get ready for the luxury tax..
Much like what Lamborghini and all the sports cars pay. 40k for a work truck is coming..

Yeah, stopping production is a better option than what happened to the Pathfinder. I even ran across a sales guy who thought it would've been better to give the G4 Pathy a new name.

Prime, I like the idea of a new fuel source for an off roader, and, if you remember, Nissan came out with a Terra Concept not too long ago. The idea of a 4 motor ORV sounds appealing, but the style they had in the concept was atrocious.

Edit: for those who didn't see Terra

So...if you can't get an Xterra or Fronty in the future, what would you drive? I think all that's left that isn't Wrangler (which is rumored to be going IFS) is a Taco. Forget the 4Runner, that thing was Pathfinder'd long ago. We could put some faith in the 2015 Land Rover Defender, but...well, go look it up for yourself. I'd rather be caught in a Grand Cherokee.

If it come that time I will end up in a jk truck conversion Though my gen 1 will never leave me.

once I have enough money i'll likely end up in a newer diesel 3500 ram. that's the plan at least once I'm done with school, like Drbandkgb though I won't be getting rid of my X.

All the more reason to do everything in my power to keep my current X going. As much as I love the GTR and 370Z, if the Xterra and Frontier are gone Nissan won't even be a consideration if I'm in the market for a new ride. Then again, I don't know what WOULD be. It's a good thing we have all the knowledge and helpful people here at XN to keep our rigs rolling into the next decade.
