33's on Desert Runners

I know tires have been talked to death. And I have yet to see an answer to this question.

I have the Nissan 15x7 Desert Runners, and I REALLY like the way they look. My second choice would be swapping to the 17x8 deep spoke wheels off of an 04ish Pathy...but I don't think they will fit over the front hubs. 33's will be done before nXm. So will the rest of the 3" SL. As sig states, I'm running a PML and 2" BL. Are there any special considerations when running 33x12.50's on stock Desert Runners? Backspacing? Steering stops? things of that nature.

Is the BS on the Desert Runners 5.5"? If so, that would be a similar setup to what TJTJ runs. He had to use wheel spacers in the rear so the tires don't rub the frame, I believe. I'd say you may have to adjust the steering stops too. But, I think there are some more knowledgeable people that can give a better answer.

Actually, he runs 13.5" tires, so that's why he needs to the spacers. You should be golden!

I loved the desert runners.. What tires are you thinking about going with? The desert runners are a 7" wide rim.. Be me I'd go with something like. 10.50 or 11.50 wide tire.. I know the 12.50s will fit but to me the more narrow rim doesn't let the tire stretch out like it should. I had 32 11.50s on my Turk build.. I'm thinking about going back to that size this summer.. That or 33 10.50s

More than likely Duratrac's...

Dave, I know what you mean about the width, but 33x10.50 just says to me, "you bought the wrong tyres" (In Jeremy Clarkson's voice....hence the 'y'). And the only company you can get in that is BFG...and I've never really been a BFG fan. And of course, there is no such thing as a 33x11.50. Which would be pretty awesome.

greentennx, any spacers or whatnot to run that setup?

I got my Desert Runners off of eBay. Had to piece meal them. Two were used and two were "newly reconditioned." I'll have to get another one pretty soon....33's w/ a rear bumper needs a full size spare.

I bought my old D.R.'s on CL.. paid 100.00 for them.. I always felt like those were the rims a Xterra should have came with.. Funny thing is in South America those were what they came with..

I like my 33" duratracs but I have blown 2 side walls out in them.. One was all my fault.. tree root ripped it.. but one Im still not sure how it cut..
Im heading back to the 32" KM2s I think..

GreenXTenn didnt run spacers that I know of..

Old thread Resurrection!

Got the 33" DuraTracs mounted up today. Pics soon. However I have some steering rub issues at full lock. It seems to hit the lower control arms in the back and on the one side where that protective cover is on the frame for the fuel lines. Can the steering stops even be adjusted out on these, or am I looking to get 1/2" spacers to compensate?

Doesn't hit any plastics on normal road driving since I already trimmed when I put the 32s on. But hitting metal can't be good.

What? No...what good is a BFH is going to do applied to a lower control arm?...I live with a little rubbing on that fuel line shield. You could probably take it off and modify it to sit farther inside away from the wheel, and it probably wouldn't take much to clear your tire (maybe that's what you were suggesting the BFH for?) But if its just a little rub at full lock, I wouldn't worry about it. Never had any issues with the control arms, but that probably is due to my wheels being an inch less backset (which you would accomplish with spacers).

You will see a little rub on the Shield.. I wouldnt worry over that.. But yes the steer stops can be adjusted to not run in those areas

Okay, so I've been on these tires for about a week and change. I'm noticing that I'm only seeing street contact on the inside of the tread. And it's not due to over inflation. I played with the tire pressure and did some chalk testing. In order to get the shoulders on the road I'm dropped to 10lbs. Seems like the 7" rim is so narrow that it's pulling the tire in like that. Am I the only one who's bad this problem? The chalk test seems to show that there is no real difference between 25 and 35lbs as far as contact patch.
