adding a subwoofer?

I wanna add subs to my 04 but don't wanna lose cargo space in the back... I found a factory fosgate sub on ebay but doesn't have the plastic trim. Anybody know where I can get that from? Also, what size is that sub?

Or should I just go with a box and quick disconnects?

Personally, i'd go with a box and quick disconnects. A 10 in sub in a sealed(or ported) box will NOT take up a lot of room.

The factory fosgate sub is 8" and I think you have to add another speaker wire for the tweeter, not sure, I dont have that setup. And I think you'd have to find someone or a website selling that rear plastic trim.

I can take out and disconnect my subs in under 20 seconds with the disconnects I've got on them.

I have a single 12" in a sealed box that I can remove quickly. Hasn't been a problem at all. I did have two 8's in the back. They were not doing it for me and had to go.

Nismo already put dibs on it. Sowwy.

As far as the wiring, the factory RF sub replaces one of the 6x9s in the back and has a 3" driver built in for the highs. It is a dual voice coil 8" to get the ohms down to 1 I believe so it will run off of a smaller amp. Then Nissan's idea of a crossover is to simply put a capacitor on the hot line going to the smaller driver. So the sub essentially becomes your rear left speaker.

I ended up going with a single 10 in a sealed box that sits right behind the amp. Doesn't take up enough space to bother me and has plenty of lows.

I have a powered 8" bazooka. Quick set up and disconnect if needed. Sounds good too

Best sub for small spaces is a bazooka tube I have an 8" and it sounds awesome and takes up very little room and sounds great, easily sounds as good as a 12" sub

I looked through some build threads and I like the dis-connect idea... any particular brand yall would recommend??

Im leaning Rockford fosgate punch p2 (10 inch). Ive got the punch speakers up front and have been happy with them

For a disconnect, look at a Speakon connector. It's a non-shorting twist lock connector designed for speaker connections.

You can find four pole (stereo) versions at most any music store, and I've seen 8 pole versions on line.

How big of a boom do you want? Thats where we should start.. If you want it louder than some 15s there is the Orion HCCA and if you want something cheap there are those options as well.. just depends on how much you want to spend and how little you want to hear when you get out of the X

I want it to sound good, and to be heard when its turned up but not so loud it rattles the xterra, if that makes sense? Im not that worried about cost, I guess kinda of middle of the road subs would do for me.

I have wanted to do this for a while but don't have the money for it

Buy a Sundown Audio SA-8, pictured below, and build a custom ported box to specs.. Then pair it with whatever amp you want..

Here is a video of the 8s

And in comparison they are pretty cheap, and when people ask what you have to say, just a single 8

It's been a bit a you probably figured out on what you wanted to do, but if you haven't and are still looking for options. I had the same concern for space, but my truck came with the RF system. So I modified the stock sub to fit an aftermarket slim 10".

^^ genius. Why don't 1.0 gen guys get those back covers and put them in. They shoud fit. No more bulky boxes. 1.5 gen guys had it made in the back!

Pretty sure that the box would fit a 1.0. That part of the interior is the same.

IN FACT IF ANYONE WANTS A FACTORY SUB, ENCLOSURE AND TRIM PANEL FOR A GOOD DEAL, PM ME!

I put a little Kenwood 10 in a truck box in the back and love it! The truck box is only like 6 inches deep so it barely takes up any room and hits like the old alpine 12 I had previously.

I'm putting Sound Ordnance B-24 Bandpass subs in my X Monday paired with a SO 2250 amplifier. That alongside my full Alpine setup should be plenty of bump

When it comes to subs is not the size(width) of the speaker but the size or thickness of the magnet. I seen a 6" Rockford with a 6" magnet about 3" thick and it was louder than a standard 12" sub.

I had a 13w6v2 in the back but when I finally got a full size spare I had to pull it out so I could carry my tire in the back

I had two old kicker 8" that I bought back in 1996 laying around but after I put them in it turned out one of them was blown. I pulled an 8" out of a bazooka tube that I had that the amp died in and threw it in there. the bazooka 8 sounds like crap, but the kicker sounds pretty good. if I thought there was a chance I could ever find one to match I would throw another one it, but for now it is what it is. It was a lot of work putting them in and I probably wouldnt do it again, but having all my space in the back is really nice. I planned on putting the JL back in some day, but I sold it last week. :weep:
