If the exhaust is blocked (A kink, etc) the back pressure can do stuff that sounds like at least some of what you describe.

There are a BUNCH of wee ribbon-like ground straps from body to frame and engine to frame, not to mention the battery's internal parts, clamps, the fuse block itself, etc, that can be jarred loose by a lot of action...and that can do this stuff too.

You didn't mention water, but your alternator may be involved as well, etc.

Did it throw any codes?

Sorry, don't have internet here. Well that's what I'm hoping it is. Since there wasn't any damage to the vehicle other than some scrapes and bruises, I'm hoping that's what happened.

No water involved on that trail. Pretty dry.

Well the only thing I saw was the ATP (Automatic Transmission Parking) light came on. That was it. But if you meant whether or not I hooked something up and tested it for codes, no I didn't.

But DANG. They STILL haven't looked at it yet. They haven't diagnosed the problem and it has been over a WEEK! It wouldn't be such a big deal but driving this tiny ass rental care around isn't very fun and I don't particularly enjoy paying $40+ a day for it.

I'd be raising a stink over this. One day I can let slide, but 7 without looking at it??

Yea well it's now with the dealership and I'm waiting for them to fix the blown fuse and find out the cause of it. Haha things go downhill quickly. They BETTER have a damn update today otherwise I'm not going to be happy. I try not to start things with people who are doing me a service, especially when it's something I can't fix on my own.

It has been a while since I updated my page, mainly because I haven't had great internet to do so. So I just updated my first post to show what I've done with it. Mainly I've done some routine maintenance, installed some fire extinguishers, one in the front and one in the rear, and then tried my best to use some organizers. When I was in AK I bought a HiLift jack mount and it's perfect! Easy to take off, easy to put on. I've also bought some long distant pencil lights (4) and installed them on a lightbar, but I have yet to be able to set it up, so it's just sitting up there.

My Xterra now has 206,000 miles on it. Spent about 6,000 driving to Alaska and back. I'm trying to figure out if I should put more money in modding it, or do some little cheap things here and there. It's going to be a very sad day when it dies. I've grown to love my Xterra SO much. I have yet to see someone on here who has as many miles on their X as I have. I bought it with about 180k miles on it. Traded in my 2000 Ford Explorer when I saw a dealership selling this one. Took it to the dealership and they said something about the coolant needs fixed. I think they said it's leaking and the tube needs fixed.

My 2002 is at 227,000 and going strong. You are due for your second timing belt kit if you haven't already done it. I think TJ said something about 400,000 miles.

lol I had it changed at like 190k or something. I know it was about when I was in Flagstaff, AZ which was last year. I'd have to look at exactly when but I'm good with that :) 400k!!!! Jesus, I don't ever want to see that on my odometer!!! One thing I dont have to worry about is my transmission because I had it replaced right when I got it. But 400k??? My gobble I wonder how many things he had to replace from wear and tear!!!

I'm at about 240, and it's still kicking. I feel the transmission could use some rebuild love, but it still runs.

Just got done going to Sand Hollow State Park, Utah! Was really fun! I let my friend take over and he got it stuck a little bit and he was like, yea, I don't like driving in sand lololol I had to take over and get it unstuck which wasn't difficult :p

Some areas, the sand was REALLY deep but after deflating the tires and putting it in 4WD, I felt like I could take on any of it! I just had to be careful because I was technically alone in terms of vehicles so I'd rather not get stuck, but it was seriously fun!

So happy I can order my Safari TSRs! Only replaced two of them and put it up front. One of my duratracs' sidewall broke....again....so I decided since I can get Safari's I'd go with those.

So I've been having some noise coming from near my tires and so I took them to a mechanic to get them looked at. They said the brakes are in desperate need to be replaced and that was one thing that was making noise. Apparently a part that's attached to the brakes is rubbing up against something else which isn't good for the tires. The estimate they gave me is really overpriced but what do you expect? People on a FB forum page are telling me to do them myself as it'll be a lot cheaper, but I decided to go with my dads suggestion of just having the mechanic do it. He said he used to always change his brakes himself and he thinks that without help from someone who really knows what they're doing, it's better to do it with a professional so something doesn't go wrong, and I agree.

They also said my shocks are completely torn up and that's one reason it's riding a little hard, but I'm planning to get Bilstein shocks on my next paycheck, and I WILL do these myself as they seem fairly easy to do compared to brakes. They gave me a $600-$700 estimate for shocks replacement (actually all mechanics and stealerships gave me an estimate around that range) so I'm going to pass up that.

Shock replacement is easy peasy. That was one of the first things I did myself, and I was still green when it came to part replacements. Pretty straightforward process :)

Brakes aren't that hard either. Calipers are pretty cake (remove, compress piston, replace) and drum brakes, well, take pictures your first time and lay your parts like a map. There are some really good YouTube videos out there

Well, this just happened. Drove to Cali to visit my family. Then after a week I went with my friend to the desert to go off roading and use his quads, and I get pulled over for my off road lights. I told him I've NEVER seen a LED light with a cover before and he's like yea I know, I guess you'll need a makeshift one or just something that will cover it up. It's a fix-it-ticket which isn't bad, but when you're not getting paid because you're on furlough and you paid a $500+ bill for your brakes, then you'll need everything you have. I've been driving around Utah without lights on and hell, even crossed multiple states and then drove in actual highly populated cities without getting a ticket, but when I'm at the desert and I'm less than 50 yards from the dirt road, I get pulled over. He must have a quota to fill because this dude pulled a u-turn like no other, he was kicked up dust and throwing dirt everywhere LOL I was like, wtf he must be super ****ing happy to see me.....anyways, this ****ing sucks. No one in Utah ever covers their lights and there's no way I'm buying a cover for them. I'll pay it off and go my on merry ****ing way. Dude was cool, but he could have at least given me a warning. I was probably more than nice to him compared to how others would have reacted.

Finally got a hold of someone. She said it's normally $187 but if I get covers, I can get it reduced to probably around $25. So I found some covers and I'm going to put them on and when I'm back home, I'm going to go to the police department and prove that I have covers.
