Generally, yes.
Depending on the player/league rules, points are given for yards (passing and rushing), sacks, points allowed by opp team, etc... Its the sum of the points each player earns.

Picking your own Defensive players can be tough.. because you really have to know how the points work, and know the players. Not saying it is too extreme, but it is definitely more time consuming.

Ok, so I think we've established at least that we're going to do $10 buy in with team defenses. Pm me or another moderator if you'd like to participate and $10 is a problem. We'll figure something out and you'll remain anonymous.
I'm on my phone so does someone want to post up an updated list and other possible rules we should establish going forward.
Also, if anybody as a good article on a basic how to play that'd be helpful as well. Let's get this awesome show on the road!

Sounds like the consensus is $10 to enter. Do we want to do winner take all, or should we try for a sponsor certificate, contribute the entries to it and see what we can get? I'm going to nominate Mac for dealing with the money. As far as rules, I suggest fairly basic, including team defenses, which I think is agreed upon. Individual defensive players gets complicates, especially with stat corrections every week. So...propose this scoring model:
1 point every 10 yards rushing or receiving
1 point every 20 yards passing
6 points touchdowns rushing or receiving
4 points touchdowns passing
2 points for 2-point conversions, rushing, receiving, passing
-1 point INTs
-2 points fumbles
3 points for FGs, bonus point for 50+ yard fg
1 point extra points
Team Def:
10 points shutout
7 points 1-10 points allowed
4 points 11-21 points
1 point 22-30 points allowed
2 points fumbles and interceptions
1 point per sack
6 points for defensive TDs, and return (special teams) TDs
we can also consider 1 point per reception for offensive players, which I would vote for, because it makes a lot more players valuable.
I have this scoring system set up already, I can make changes as agreed upon, but I will say this scoring system is time tested

For the noobs: While it is best to be there to draft (Never know if your top pics go before your turn), you can setup a 'draft order' by ranking players if you happen to forget, or the wife/gf asks the day before what you're doing for your anniversary that night. It's also helpful so as players are drafted, it'll remind you who you wanted next.

I'll just throw my situation out there and my pick and whatever works best for everyone we'll do.
I'll be in NM visiting family the 31st through the 4th as the plan stands now. My first choice for a draft day would be the 30th and second would be the 28th or the 4th.
