Front bumper madness!

Ok, so I'm fairly new to the board, but I've had my '03 X for 4 glorious years and now the time has come to invest in some brute strength up front.

However, actually finding a front bumper that initially catches my eye has been a tiresome journey of disappointment I must say.

I'm hoping for some inspiration and honest opinions from you all. Feel free to even post up your magnificent beasts' front ends and let me gander away! (I meant that in the most non-perversive way possible)

Also, any input is more than welcomed!

I'm looking for a strong (physically and visually) front end with enough character to keep the flow of my X looking decent (and manly - remember, up here in Canada we're all lumberjacks). I've encountered nice looking bumpers out there, but a lot of them look like they'd fall apart if ever put to the test!

Hoping for some great ground clearance as well, without compromising and utterly exposing my X's essential front end parts.

I've always loved the Pre-runner look as I find it's design appealing.

A winch, a possible hitch option and light mounts are necessities, as any of you would undoubtedly agree.

I've creeped some of your rigs and damn they're pretty. I just keep hitting roadblocks!

Thanks in advance!

I like my ARB, there are some things I don't like about it like lack of integrated fog lights and the squareish looking tubes in the front center. but overall I am really happy with it. I paid 870 shipped for it from 4wheelparts. it came in about 5 days.

I really like that :) Looks strong and brutish.
I'm not a fan whatsoever of the squarish tubes either. Nice to see another yellow X (the best color!) for some comparative insight!

I'd want a look like that, but with a Pre-runner-like tube setup, or something.

I guess my interest is a mix? And I gather by your question, I can't have my cake and eat it too.

I like the Pre-runner look, but I still want a heavy setup to a degree. Like yellowX16, integrated fogs is a wonderful idea.

I'd opt for something like this, as it'd be the perfect setup:

...but I don't drive a Ram.

Call up James at RLC and let him know what you want. I'm still rockin a stock bumper, but he's who I'll go with when I 'need' a new one.

Here's one not too different from that Ram one

I'm going to have to throw in another vote for James over at RLC. Take a look at the RLC Owners Thread: Linkey.

I know when the time comes for me to get a front bumper, It'll be an RLC.

this is not my xterra, this guy posted some pics of his x up on clubxterra a while ago. he used an expedition one winch bumper for a 2010 Toyota Tacoma. this wouldn't be my ideal bumper as he had to modify the brackets to make it work. but I think it looks pretty good.

For the 1st Gens, the options are limited to Shrockworks, ARB, Calmini, and RLC. While they have their differences, they mostly share the full-plated design. Calmini just started offering a pre-runner front bumper. Other than that, the tube / pre-runner style would have to be custom made, like NMterras' 1st Gen above. My bumpers are RLC; check my build out for pictures galore.

All are good quality. Just go with what suits you best :)

I have always wanted a bumper like Odin (post above) had.. One day I will get there however I believe that I want James to build it for me, and I might just have him connect it to my sliders...

This is what I want to do. Badly.

The only problem I have ever seen with this though is: What do you do about the bars that wrap the wheel wells if you need to take off the front bumper?? You could make the bars over the wheel well dtachable, but that would severely hurt the strenth of the whole setup... This could also put one down a dangerous path. If one were to do the bars over the wheel wells, why not go ahead and run a tube that goes across the cowl, just before the windsheild wipers (so you still have enough room to open the hood)? Then why not build a rear bumper with tubes attaching it to the sliders? Then why not build a custom roof rack and run a tube in between the doors that runs from the sliders up to it? And before you know it you are Alpine Spirit running over cars, giant boulders and woodland/desert critters whenever the need arises.

I also am going to have him build a rear bumper and do the comp cut on the rear quarters, then actually attach that to the sliders. I figured I could just have the front attached just to make it stronger.

I guess in order to pull the bumpers off, you just have to disconnect everything and then move that up or drop it down.
