Front bumper questions

Looks like I just might be picking up a shrock front bumper if I can get it for the right price but I'm not sure how much work it will take to put on. I'll be able to take off the factory bumper and brush guard, I think I'll need to adjust the torsion bars due to weight. Is there anything else I need to know before I put this beast on?

Eventually (hopefully spring) I'll be getting one from RLC so I don't want to do to much that will make putting the RLC on harder. Yes that means somebody here might just get a 3rd hand shrock for a pretty low price.....wink wink hint hint.

if you have a body lift you'd have to prepare for the gap other than that sounds like you got it setup, just make sure you got support there for it.

......what if I said yes?

Hey one of my main incentives to buy it is I know somebody on here will want it and I can make my money back on it....maybe even a bit more for delivering it at an event.....so you still have a shot at it.

Awesome. I was worried that there was something I might be overlooking....I don't have a BL right now but probably will though the gap wont bother me.

Not sure about Shrock, but with the RLC you have to remove the piece that brings the frame together at the very front.. the frame horn maybe??

Will you have the body lift before you get the RLC? If not, and you plan on doing the body lift later down the road, I'd say do the body lift first. Its easy to do, relatively inexpensive, and then you won't have to modify the bumper later down the road. But if you dont ever plan on doing the body lift, disregard everything I said ;)

I looks like this just bolts off, is that true? If I have to cut then I'll end up with a new tool in my collection.

Yeah I'll have the body lift first. I'll do it just before I get new tires which should be the beginning of the year.

Yeah it's just some bolts.. PB Blast (and air tools if you have them) will be your friend. But like I said, I don't know if it's the same with Shrock as it is with RLC.

yea i believe the shrock actually partially bolts into those holes where that front piece (that you posted Casey) attaches too.

That piece that you are talking about is the actual bumper, all of the plastic crap is just the bumper cover, and yes with a Shrockworks bumper you use those two bolts on the end of the frame horns.

When I took my front bumper off I just used a cheater bar on my socket and broke out the elbow grease. It took me 10 minutes to get the bumper off.

I decided to beef the hell out of my bumper though total of 8 grade 8 bolts hold it on now.

My friend went with me to meet the seller....and his wife decided to tag along....that means I got to actually use my basket til we got back to their car.

Glad you got it! Post some pictures up when you get in on!!

Will do, sadly it might be awhile unless I get a chance tomorrow.

Can anybody send me a link to the bolts that I'll need? I was looking on home depots website and don't see to many fully threaded grade 8 bolts.

Ah ok I didn't think the stock setup would have all of the bolts for it. Hopefully it won't be raining tomorrow cause I just happen to have the day off, I should be able to muscle it in by myself.

I know when I did my hefty it was nice to have two extra people holding it while I put the bolts in.

Sent from my mansion in Grouchland.

Mine would have been impossible without extra hands. That being said, a floor jack, a 1x6 and a towel wrapped around it make a good level lift to get it in position.

Yea man i got mines second hand after it been on my buddys truck which was rolled twice on the street. I held it up with floor jack stands and a piece of wood 10 x 36 and some ropes from my roof rack to safety it. Managed to break a bolt on removal of my stock bumper so drilling holes to N-rig took some blood and sweat. Between the way I wheel and NYC drivers I dont think it will ever be on straight :/

Well I'm a beast so I pick it up held it in place and got the bolts that go on the frame horns on. I'm not kidding that was the easiest way for me, I tried jack stands, putting the back bolts on and lifting the rest up but that made it hit the fenders, floor jack.....and lifting it by hand and holding it in place while putting 2 bolts in was the easiest.

And I think they use more screws and bolts to hold the stock front end on that it takes to make the spacestation....

IIRC they are a fine pitch, and you will want a metric 10.8 if your looking for "grade 8" . Ace over near the Brushy Creek/Old Spartanburg/Hudson Roads intersection has the best metric hardware selection in town, I believe thats where I got mine from.

On another note though....anybody know a good way to get KC's off after the threads had been loctited? The bolt seems to be spinning in the light housing but the nut isn't backing out.

I ended up being able to use the stock bolts that was holding everything else on...well one wasn't factory. Apparently whoever put the brush guard on lost a bolt and found one that would more or less work....but I cant really crank down on it like I can the rest....
