I'm def not going w/ a MT. I'm barely getting 11mpgs as it is, and I'm mostly street with occasional off roading. I think it would be a waste to get an MT. I'm thinking about TW's too. About $600.00 shipped for a full set. From what I've read, people are getting between 45k-55k miles out of them.

I know you sent me a PM on TNX about my Grabbers. I should update that with my most recent opinion of them.

I actually have come to REALLY like them A LOT. The compound they are made of is so durable that I still have about 50% tread left with over 30K put on them. I've smashed into broken tree limbs sticking in to the trail, done massive rock rash and the 10ply has held up awesomely. I have some major divets in there and they still work like a champ.

They are fairly loud on the pavement, just I just keep the radio tuned up. The lack of a patterned sidewall is somewhat annoying when in snow/mud since it gets packed in there. That would be my only complaint about Red Letters.

I hope that helps. :)

Thanks! I just love the look of the Grabbers. I just hope the 33x12.5R17 aren't too wide. I'm already sticking out enough with the wheel adapters... Maybe I can just get some TW's and paint the letters red lol. Thanks for the info!

Dude, I just realized that the background picture on my phone is mostly mountains from Coal Creek, but also the butt-end of your Xterra.

Better see you this September!

Well my dad continues to try and steer me away from the treadwrights, I'm looking at about $600 for the tires w/ shipping. At least $100 to mount and balance all 4, then about $75-$80 for an alignment. So total, I'm looking at $700 and some change for everything. I've priced out Cooper Discovery AT3 (around $1200), BFG AT/KO (around $1200) & General Grabber Red Letters (around $1100). So I would only be saving about $400 which would be going to getting the oil leak fixed on the X anyway. I was hoping to have a little extra left over to get new leaf springs, but that's obviously not happening. I'm still doing extensive research on tires to figure out whats really my best deal and option. I really love the General Grabber Red Letter but they only have them in 33x12.5R17. I know it's pretty much the same as a 285 but at 12.50 wide, I don't know how that will look or affect everything. My wheels are 17x8 so I don't know.

It won't be that wide, you'll actually like the stance a lot. You said you had wheel spacers? Ditch them, if you wheel they are dangerous for offroad use, at least. If it's a pavement queen you're ok. One guy on AZXC i think had his wheel fall off during a trip climbing up a rock ledge due to those things. Otherwise man, a lot of good things from the generals except some people say they wear fast and are a heavier tire. However you having a gen 2 the weight isn't a big deal for you guys with the bigger motors XD.

They are wheel adapters, I'm running Chevy wheel pattern. I'm sitting pretty wide as it is now...

If you gave the ones that bolt to the lugs and have a new set of lugs, then you shouldn't have an issue. The spacers that have no new lugs are the ones to be afraid of.

Got my new shoes put on and my oil leak fixed. Apparently it needed new valve covers. They said all the leaky oil completely covered a sensor and messed it up. I should know exactly which sensor when I get my receipt of what all they fixed. On to the new shoes... Got 285/70R17 BFG AT/KO's (they are really proud of these tires) cost about $1,300 installed with front end alignment. I'm super happy with them, they ride so much better than the old tires. They don't stick out quite as much as the old ones did either.

My next plans are to finish my custom grill, paint the calipers red and tint the tails and I'm fixing to buy 4 kc's and when I get those, I'll be ordering my Xoskel Light Cage. I cant freaking wait!

Nice! So what made you go white on the outside?
I love the contrast of the blk/white. I really want to paint the letters red ya know, a grabber wannabe lol. I really wanted the grabbers but I did some hard thinking and decided that I more a pavement queen to justify on using the grabbers for what they are really used for. It was mostly for looks on the grabbers more than the performance of them.

Thanks everyone, It needs a good wax job, it has a few beauty marks down the sides of it. I hope to finish my grill this weekend or the next and paint my calipers red. Just have to make time to do it. Thursday I'm picking up 4 KC's and hopefully ordering an Xoskel light cage and get it all set up and working.

Got the bill back from the mechanics, the burning of oil came from bad valve gaskets so they replaced those. They also had to replace a Cam Shaft Sensor? They said the hot oil leaking on to it damaged it... My X still is giving me problems while driving, it still clunks, the rpms go down to close to 500 and almost shuts off (most of the time it shuts off) then goes back to driving normal but then the SLIP and VDC lights come on. It shuts off while I'm doing 40-50mph and takes a good 30 seconds to crank back up so I'll be dropping it off again for them to fix this damn problem they should have done in the first place.

Here's what keeps happening to the X....
I'm just driving down the road doing a steady 45-50 mph. All of a sudden the engine will jolt like its misfiring and the RPM's will drop to about 500 then it jumps back up. During all of this, I keep my foot on the pedal like I normally would. Sometimes when the RPM's drop, the engine will just shut off and when I try to crank it up, it takes 2-3 times to get it to start back up. This has happened during the middle of a turn or when I'm just sitting there at idle. When it finally starts back up, the VDC and Slip lights come on. I am not mechanically inclined at all so I'm at a loss to what I should do. I mean I can't keep having this problem happening because I've almost wrecked because it's shut off in the middle of turning at big intersection. So I took the X back to the mechanic to fix it. They thought it could have been some crank sensor or something...When they plugged it into their computer, they couldn't find anything wrong with it. They think that it may have something to do with air intake box because its "loose" and hitting bumps and things may be causing it to suddenly shut off. So he wants to replace it and see if that fixes it.

What you guys think?

Also, I went out to the river last weekend and had a good time getting there. The trail needs to be cut back bad so I've got some pin-striping down both sides. Also lost 2 center caps from a massive log.

Yea, I just want it all fixed. The new shoes are doing fantastic. So much quieter than the old tires I had. I can actually hear my radio close to level 7 lol, used to have it at level 9 or 10 to drown out the whawhawhawhawha. I'm still waiting on my Xoskel cage to come in, ordered it 2 weeks ago. I'm debating on painting the KC Rock Guards red or something but not sure. Hopefully I can get these dang problems fixed soon.

Well the mechanics had it for a whole week and I finally got to drive it Saturday. They replaced the intake and some oil cooler sensor or something like that. Saturday, I cranked it up, sure enough, smoke is blowing out the exhaust. Never did that before I brought it to them the first time. Driving around on the interstate and the X jolts and the damn VDC and Slip lights come on again! At this point I was highly pissed off. They had it a week and nothing is fixed on it.

Well a friend of mine called me because he was stuck Sunday while he was in the middle of pulling out this old man who drove off into a ditch. Guy was way too old to be driving and didn't see the person stopped trying to turn off and went into the ditch and literally stopped about a foot from a metal power pole. Lucky for the old man, it pour the day before so it was soggy, otherwise he would have smoked the pole. When I get there I see his Ford F-150 on 35s stuck and only his rear wheels spinning. There was another F150 there trying to get him out too and the ground was so soggy, he got stuck too lol. I stroll in like a boss and put it in 4lo and creep on in there. Pulled the Red F-150 out then pulled the other F-150 out. Shocked just about everyone there. Hook up to the old mans Silverado and a Toyota Tacoma also hooked up and we both start pulling him and the old man refused to let off the brake while pulling him even after we told him several times before and during so I'm just dragging the truck at this point. Well I get stuck because the ground is ridiculously soft and so does the Toyota. The Yota was light enough to be pushed out so once he got loose, he hooked up to me and got me out. By this time, we tell the old guy, call a wrecker because this isn't working. They were all shocked how well the X did and were highly impressed.

So my weekend wasn't so crummy but still the mechanical problems are still bothering me. Onto the Pictures...

As you can see, its just mushy

Got the X back today from the mechanic... They replaced the ECM relay and the Cam Shaft Sensor. They said they found metal shavings in the ECM relay and oil everywhere. They said the car will prob smoke at start up until the excess oil is burned off. They said there was oil everywhere but they said everything should be good as new. So hopefully on my way home, it shouldn't give me any problems!

Yea, hopefully this is the last for a while. I'm trying to save up and get some armor while I can. Single and almost no bills lol, I'm thinking of this bumper from Boondox (XTF) and a simple rear bumper w/ tire carrier. Probably get a local friend help fab up some sliders and skids since I have plans for them.

Thanks, I can't freaking wait to get it. I'm so impatient lol. But I think I'll get sum sliders and skids before the bumper

Nice bumper, I much prefer that low profile design compared to the bulky ARB and Shrock look. Makes the approach angle slightly better too.

Yea I originally liked the Hefty Fab Works original bumper but I've heard about design issues and some other stuff. I know Boondox makes some quality stuff

Painted the light cage and installed! Just need to get them wired up. Need to figure out where I'm going to mount the switches and whether I'll drill thru the roof or not. Those roof rack bolts are a serious PIA!! Got the stock Torx Wrench from under the seat and tried to unbolt them by hand and I couldn't even get them to move. Sprayed them for a week with PB Blaster and just kept at it. Finally got a vice grip, attached it to the handle of the torx wrench and that way worked a whole lot better than doing it by hand. Got 3 of the bolts out and then the very last one spun on me.
Here's the suspect...

Had to pull down the headliner (which is pretty simple) and attempted to get it out. I didn't have any needle nose vice grips so I attempted with just regular needle nose pliers. That didn't work at all. So went to Lowe's this morning and got a pair of needle nose vice grips only to find out that even the needle nose pliers are still too big to fit over the nut-sert to get the bolt out. I said screw it, I'm putting this thing on anyway! Eventually I'll get it out but for now it should be fine. I think I accidentally threw away the hardware that came with the cage so I bought new ones from Lowe's. Using 3 bolts, this thing is solid, its not going anywhere.

I purchased the cage bare metal and painted it silver. Used basic primer (2 coats) and used Rustoleum Satin Metallics Aluminum (3 coats). I came out pretty sweet.

That is the one thing that I hate about photobucket.

easiest way is to figure out what part of the url got changed (normally just like a /thisismyxterraphotos/ is added to the url) and to add that to the photos that you have in here. It is always a / and your file name added into the URL

Here's my overall goal on what I want it to look like...
I'm thinking about doing this w/ plasti-dip...I just can't make a bedliner commitment right now lol
