The VDC how to is a direct copy and paste from Truffle's post on TNX. all credits should go to him and NutsgoWee, I am just making available to XN
Now before you all going thanking me for doing this, most all of the credit belongs to Nutsgowee.
He gave me this
Alright so if it's momentary it must be the "v2" which tells you the type of circuit inside the switch:
The 5th digit, the "u" in your case, tells you how the wiring for the lighting is inside:
And the "66" tells you that your lights are incandescent so polarity doesn't matter.
This is from the 2007 manual but should be the same for 2008:
So the RED and BROWN wires are the illumination. There will be two other wires, they go back to the computer and control the VDC.
Pin 10 - RED (if you want the lower light on)
Pin 9 - BROWN (if you want the lower light on)
Pin 8 - RED
Pin 7 - BROWN
Pin 2 - One of the other wires
Pin 3 - The last wire
If you don't have Brown and Red going to the switch, use a multimeter to test which wires give you 12V (with the dimmer turned to max and illumination on).
So easyist way to do this, is the way i did and the good part about all of this is, that it you dont need to cut up the factory plug in.
Tools needed
1x A good crimper
1x Wire stripper
Wire-I choose to use 14gauge wire on all my switches and for just this switch you wont need much about 5-6 inches per tab and its a 6 tab switch maximum and Im guest-mating as i didn't measure.
6x female connects
4x wire taps
The switch Id call Jim and just say " you want the momentary switch with the vdc artwork for xterras on it
List of switches available on digikey and mouser (for price-check) that will work for this mod:
V2D1S00B-00000-000 (
mouser)- SPST momentary with no illumination
V2D1160B-00000-000 (
mouser)- SPST momentary with 1 incandescent upper light (independently wired)
V2D2GHNB-AAC00-000 (
mouser)- SPST momentary with green upper LED and amber lower LED. The lower LED is only on when the switch is being pressed. No, there is no way to wire it so the lower light comes on when the VDC is disabled without serious work so don't ask. Also the LEDs share a ground pin so they cannot be connected to the dimmer.
V2D1B60B-00000-000 (mouser) - SPST momentary with upper incandescent that only comes on when the switch is being pressed.
If you really need a certain color to match the rest of your switches you can follow my LED swap how-to here (posts 1 and 8)

Most of these steps i dont have photos for as there are millions of threads showing the exact same thing.
Step 1- pop top plate over the radio off- best way to do this is a small screw driver and gently pry.
2- Take screw out of the top and gently pry back and the face will pop off.
3- unplug all existing connecters that are behind the face.
4- were the cup holders are grab both sides and pull up it should come right up
5- pull forward on the shift consul piece and then pull back and carefully remove it from the shift lever.
6- remove the two screws holding the switch panel peice on and gentley pull and it should shift back enough to begin.
Now where it gets fun
7- disconnect the battery
8-Unplug the existing switch plug thats in the back of the switch and pull away.
9- go to the switch and get it set up before going back to the connector depending on what you have you can jumper certain plugs. I was able to jumper
Pin 10 - RED (if you want the lower light on)
Pin 9 - BROWN (if you want the lower light on)
Pin 8 - RED
Pin 7 - BROWN
Now if you have different colored wires you'll need to use a multimeter or a power probe to determine the ground and the source of power.
the rest
Pin 2 - One of the other wires
Pin 3 - The last wire
Now i would label each female end that goes into the taps so you don't get confused.
the rest
10-now tap all wires on the connecter like this

11- plug them in and your done with the switch
12- before you plug everything back up you'll need to hook up the battery and get your truck to a straight road. This is because unplugging the battery can cause the vdc and slip light to come on. Once on the road, ( a straight road) set the steering wheel perfectly straight and shut the truck off. Turn it back on and drive straight for about 100ft. In doing this your resetting the steering indicator.
13- test the switch
14- clean up and your done
