I recently purchased this 2001 Suzuki Savage 650 with 16k miles for $400 from a co-worker who needed space in his garage.

Looking at the pic below, you may ask why it's in pieces... The former owner found an oil leak and decided to remove the engine to fix the problem. Up to that point the bike was running great, but leaving small droplets of oil. He later found out from a local bike shop that removing the engine wasn't necessary.

So, this will be a project with a 52mpg reward.

My plan, besides the obvious, is to paint the bike in flat black, remove the broken windshield, wrap the exhaust, paint the exhaust flat black, and purchase a bobber kit.

Red rims on the wheels and white sidewalls!

Damn, I'd love to come across a deal like that. Can't wait to see it back together!

Primed the side cover with self etching primer; after cleaning, sanding, and applying acetone to the surface.

Leave the sidecover like that and put some shark's teeth on it! With a bobber kit, flat black and the red rims/whitewalls would look sweet!

Or paint it like a horse and get a custom plate AMISH.

I want to build a bobber in OD green with a white star on the tank and a brown leather saddle. One day, when I have the space to build something...

I have a Suzuki. Bit bigger though so I am happy with 35mpg. Not as good as your 52mpg but better than the X. You will have a nice ratt-rod bobber there. Cool project

This is how I want my bobbed out look to be. Found the kit, just need to get the bike running and ascetics out of the way before I make the purchase.
