I suppose this is to be my new home. I joined here when I had my X, but I've since gotten a new ride. Meet my Tacoma.


Got a few things in mind. Eventually I'll get a rack, SAS, maybe a locker. But my first project to tackle will be a four wheel drive conversion and a transmission swap. Found a few build ups online and I'm saving for that now.

Ask me questions, recommend more mods by all means, my list is short right now.

question. idk how hard this would be due to wiring, but, if your tool box gets in your way have you thought about putting the antenna on the rear corner of your bed to know where your truck ends so you don't hit things? I knew someone that did that so they didn't rear end into things ha. not saying you can't drive, but it can help :)

I get the concept, but I don't like how it looks with the antenna at the back of the truck.

that's a reasonable time frame. you can probably get a rear locker off of a totaled pre-runner or something. the pre-runners that generation came with a locker. it'll be cheaper than aftermarket

You're thinking the off-road TRD's. Mines a prerunner but it doesn't have a locker

Yeah definitely. But that will only happen if I find a donor before I get around to buying the locker. Been looking for a donor or parts, but as soon as I get the cash for the locker, I'm getting an a locker. Found someone who will install it for $150

that's a VERY reasonable price. will they do the lever inside for you as well with the wiring? and another question: I don't wanna research so does your truck have the same motor as the 4runner?

Thats just to put the locker in and the truck back together. I'll run the lines and wire it after, I'm good at that part.

As far as motors go, I really want to say yes, but i don't know 100%. It's the same motor as the V6 Tundra

That's awesome! I found a little something on a Tacoma forum, but it's not extremely detailed. Every little bit helps

yeah dude I agree. and this forum has plenty of photos and the Tacoma would have similar parts and a diff is a diff haha. how many miles do you have

150k. The engine will go another 150k, gonna replace the tranny when I do the conversion and I'll try to find one with less miles on it

the engine will go another 150k if you trash it ha. if you treat it right, you will get more. and you had a nice forte man. sorry it got totaled. I never saw your x. I am about to click that happy little link haha.

Never got far modding the X. I live in a house where my parents don't believe in "frivolous spending" and they believe vehicles have no need to go off-road. So any and all mods are "frivolous"

I underwent a lecture every time I did anything to it lol

your xterra got wrecked lol. so you lived at home and your parents were anal and didn't want you putting money into your truck. how annoying. are you in school or anything? I just recently got divorced and had to move back in with my parents because I can't afford to live on my own right now haha.

Found a possible donor. Same year as mine, 4x4, 5 spd manual,V6, four door "access cab," black, blown engine. He's asking $900

Seems like an amazing deal, all the parts I need and then some for less than a grand. If this comes through, I might actually have some plans for that truck. Off the top of my head, I'm thinking rear locker, exo, snorkel, relocate the spare, make it look just real mean. Maybe SAS it instead of my dd. Only thing I don't want to do is make it look like a truggy. Just make it look as off-road as possible while keeping it street legal.

But all that is assuming the deal comes through and I find a new engine for that one.

Haven't gotten another reply from the guy since I told him I was interested, he may have sold it. With a deal like that, it doesn't surprise me. I do prefer to tell people that I've sold whatever they're asking me about, but whatever. Right now, I'm waiting for my tax refund to get the rear locker , I decided to go with that first since I'm still waiting on a donor truck.

Tomorrow I'll finally be finishing the switch mount in-cab, and I'll post some pics of how it looks now when it's light out.

sounds good can't wait to see it. and yeah he should at least discuss the availability of the truck to you. crazy.

Found a website that sells totaled vehicles. They're all over the country, so it's not too hard to find one close to me. They're damaged from various doings, front end, side impact, roll over, some just have blown engines. Good part about older vehicles, since they aren't worth a whole lot, it doesn't take much damage for an insurance agent to consider them "totaled," so several are in decent condition.

Long story short, I can find a donor truck for under $1,000 just by keeping an eye on the site and waiting for a good find.

Sharing the site with you guys. Maybe you guys could find a vehicle to salvage for good parts.
