...in Denver, and drove it home to Cortez, CO. It was a long day. The vehicle runs well as far as engine, tranny, and transfer case. I've never had anything like it before and am not sure what to think of the suspension... feels a bit wobbly on initial turn in, but then firms as the suspension sets. Appear to be oem shocks and 110k miles. Probably time for some attention in that area.

Looking forward to getting it out on the trails. I guess I need to sort out airing down and back up, and probably a host of other things. The headlights are misaligned, and I have no idea when fluids or other maintenance was done. I guess I need to find an owner's manual to download, as none came with it. I'll be busy!

Anyway, looking forward to learning a lot about it here and meeting ya'll.

Welcome!

100k is a LOT on a set of shocks, especially on a SUV.

Let's talk about what you want to do with it and we can recommend some potential upgrades so you don't have to do things twice if you want to offroad.

Welcome from Arizona! I bought my 2011 Pro 4X with 95k four years ago. After doing maintenance and a few upgrades, 50k later it is a capable machine and running strong. I couldn't be happier with my choice and I suspect you will be too.

What I'd like and what is achievable may not match up. I don't know.

We bought it primarily for use on the Xterra trails (I suppose we don't say Jeep trails here, do we?). We have a lot of them in the area. We're not so much off roaders as we are hikers and photographers, and car campers, but we will drive places like the Alpine Loop/Engineer Pass and Imogene Pass fairly regularly. They are in our back yard. So, hopefully we can get a capable and reasonably comfortable ride on the Xterra trails.

Obviously, the machine has to travel mountain highways to get to the trails, and in some cases it could be a road trip vehicle. So, I'd appreciate a more controlled ride and better handling on the highways, too.

I'm obviously not the first here with these needs, so was planning to look over the suspension forum, but if you are up for giving me a head start, that would be most appreciated.

Need Bigger Tires
I ran my old one for a while with a mild 1.5" lift, partly because I got the front shocks really cheap, and partly because the rear leafs were dead anyway and needed replacing. My goal was a daily with good off-road capability for back-country camping sort of thing.

Was on a budget and looking at Bilstein 5100s for the front and OME leafs for the rear. Put the OMEs on, but wound up getting a set of Kings off Kijiji (Craigslist in Canada) for really cheap so ran those instead.

Look into both the full OME or the Ironman4x4 USA kits.

Matched spring rates and shock valving for good control and ride quality with a few choices in capacity increase to suit your needs.

Several members run both kits and can help you decide which you'd be happier with.
