Possible Transmission problems...

So, here it goes. I have an 05 Xterra 4x4. When descending a hill, the transmission will down shift. After completing, of course, the RPM's jump to about 3,000. Once I get to the bottom of the hill and need to accelerate, the transmission will not shift. So, I push the gas multiple times, sometimes hitting almost 4,500rpm until it finally shifts out. Any idea what this could be and what I need to tell Nissan because they cannot tell me anything. It could be something normal for the X but this is why I want to know if anyone else has had this occur.

Have you done the tranny by pass? The gen2 AT has the tranny cooler built into the radiator.
These are a known issue.. The lines crack and leak.. Allowing radiator fluid to bleed in to the tranny fluid..

No, I have not. I check the transmission and coolant everyday because of this issue but I have no reason to believe that is happening. Taken the issue to Nissan as well and they told me they could not determine anything wrong. My main concern at this point is my car is still under warranty for another 3,000 miles and if it is the transmission, I want it replaced.

I've never experienced that, but I don't have many hills to drive on either. I would be hammering Nissan to see what was wrong as well as have it checked out by an independent shop that you trust. Post up what you find out later.

I would be willing to bet that you pushed the break right before it downshifted. That's normal for second gens on hills. Mine does it too. You're good

Thanks for the info Ryan. That's usually exactly what happens. And Tommy, I did check both the fluids. Everything checked out to be okay so far. RATTFINK, I am still waiting for the milkshake. haha, I just know it's going to happen because I'm currently pushing close to 109,000 at the moment. According to my local dealer, it should have already happened. So, maybe I will be the lucky one and it doesn't.

I would but at the moment still under warranty so I need to wait before I change anything. I have been looking into it online so more than likely, I will. The warranty only has about 3,000 miles left before it expires. Would also love to purchase a cold air intake and turbo... So, many things left I wanna do to the X.

I did the bypass with about 1,500 miles left because with my luck if I waited it would go at 1 mile left and the trany would blow up with 50 miles past the warranty. :)

Yeah, I am going to wait another month and see what happens... Will be going up north for the holidays, which translates into X+ 2ft snow=fun... Anyway, so after that trip, nothing happens, I will do the bypass.

The warranty issued through Nissan covers up to 85,000. When I purchased my X, I also purchase a 36,000 mile extended warranty. So, this is the reason why I still have coverage. Sorry for the confusion. Should have explained that better.
