I love it. I spent a lot of time looking over Caspers for ideas and really liked his design if you are looking for jerry can holders.

its the same price as a shrocks and you dont have to wait. I am going to figure out how to make the spare tire holder and add a fuel can holder and a mount for my high lift, I just dont know how to draw it out, I have the base rear bumper. I also found a company that will cut and bend everything I need and all I will have to do is find someone to weld it all together.

Shrocks stuff is amazing, but its a 12 week wait to get one right now. Not everyone can wait that long. But if a 1/4" steel face and 1" thick built-through recovery points, and the ability to stop a lifted Ford F-250 smashing into your *** at rear hatch height are important, well, its hard to go wrong if you have the time to wait for it.

IE: If the truck rams your *** on the 11th week, well, you are totaled....if the rammer waits for the 13th week or longer, you're good to go.

:D

The Shrock is tucked in tight to improve departure angles though, and there's not much added room to store conventional Gerry Cans, etc. The Skid-Row rear bumper is very good, and has the depth to allow mounting cans, but, adding that depth, to any rear bumper, reduces your departure angle/hurts clearance.

If you wheel where extended distance is more important than clearance, say out in the desert where the next gas station might be more than 200 miles away, or its tough to go get gas and come back, etc, the deeper rear bumpers work better as they allow that added storage shelf back there. If you wheel where ground clearance is more of an issue, and there's gas stations w/in say 200 miles, etc, then the added gas may not be as important.

RCL's stuff has been looking good, but I don't know what the clearance's are for it, etc. The simple physics of it mandate that the further it sticks out, the worse the departure angle, but, you can also make it come out higher to compensate for that (At the expense of a higher COG, and so forth...).

Shrock mounts the hi-lift upright, I'd prefer it flat and low to improve COG, but there's no room to do that AND preserve the departure angle/rear impact resistance, etc.

There's no wrong answer, its what fits your wheeling.

Is the 12 weeks actual time to my door or to AC's door? Do I add a week or two if ordered from AC along with other stuff?

Also, lets face it I'm frugal, hell ...cheep. I can't see the addition of a tire carrier is worth $400. Besides, there is no option from Shrockworks for a rear w/o a tire carrier for a GEN1. So if someone has a rear w/ 1/4" face, unpainted, ready to install for under $500 delivered in 3 weeks, I'll investigate.

I don't have a problem w/ Shrock products. I do like what they put out. Hell the front bumper took out my garage wall. The problem I have is: Don't tell me 4 weeks and take 3 months or whatever, I'd rather you tell me 3 months up front so I'm not looking for it.

here here!
I'd like to buy the bumper then have the swing arm put on later, but it would just look bad until it got on there

I'd buy the bare bumper w/o the swing arm and put it on later, I don't have a problem with that. That way I'd be able to make slight changes for my wants. I guess I'm looking for a base model so to speak. With an option from column A or 1 from column B.

Have you thought about finding a shop to fab one up for you? Sounds more like the route you should take if wait time is an issue. Also cheaper since you do not pay for shipping. :shucks:

You can order directly from Shrock, and, AC doesn't have it go to them first anyway, its dropped shipped directly from Shrock to you....so the 12 weeks is 12 weeks.

It does look OK w/o the carrier, but, the carriers are hand matched to the bumpers, so, personally, I'd get'm as a set to not have to mess with alignment, etc, later.

If you can find a local shop, as mentioned, you can explain what you want, and get it faster, w/o shipping charges, but the total costs can end up similar, as they have to put time into it to develop it, etc.

There has been several months invested in research on a Rear Bumper. Designs, materials, labor cost and even time and milage to and from locations have been looked into. So yes, the thought has crossed my mind.

However... demand, greed and irresponsible spending practices have lead to a market that it limited for the Gen1 Xterra. Although there are some great products out there, due to its relative age, and newer modeled owner requests, manufacturers have stopped making or at least cut back on the offering of optional designs. So the potential buyer is now left with "finding" someone or making one themself. Both options open up it's own can of worms.

I'm just looking for a basically designed rear bumper that won't cost me over $500 for materials that can be purchased for $250 and under. OK I'm off my soapbox, my head hurts now...

TJTJ: Using both the Shrockworks and AC pages, I priced the same rear bumper w/ carrier. Shrock came to $808 and AC was $774. If AC's bumper is from Shrock, why the difference in price? Not that this is a complaint, just a, HMMMM moment. They both are bare steel, both come w/ stiffeners and I added a lift mount. Now add shipping. So ordering from AC right off saved me almost $35.

Please don't get me wrong, Shrockworks makes a great product, IMO, I think they've just forgotten about the GEN1 for newer vehicles.

Business is business and money is money. I don't have to like it, I don't even have to agree with it. I just have to except it and move on.

I have a Concept Customs rear. For the price, turn around time, and craftsmanship you can't beat Shane's work. I just don't understand spending all of that money and waiting months to get a Shrock when Shane can make one in a week or so for less.

My bumper hasn't made it to his site yet, but James's is on there.

It was under $700 painted. He uses some paint that I don't know anything about, but it is significantly better than powder coating apparently. Also one thing I really like is the shackle mounts are lined up with the frame. When you pull anything from those, it is basically directly pulling from the frame, rather than a random spot on the bumper. It looks like some other bumpers have the mounts offset from the frame.

Bf fabbed this up as a Christmas present for me. This is his test design and will be making changes for another one in the future.

CoXterra, I contacted CC and was quoted a grand.
As I said , business is business and money is money.

BlckHwk13, You're in my area, if BF is willing to do a GEN1 for a reasonable price...let's talk.

He has been asked to do some 2nd Gens from the area too. What he does is buy the basic bumper pieces from bucksnort, weld it together and then fabbed up the tired carrier. I'll ask him if he is interested in looking at a 1st Gen; it's just difficult to say right now because he is in school in Michigan and only visits on the weekends.
