Hello Nissan enthusiasts!!!
I bought an automatic Xterra 2010 in January. So far no problems at all. However i am concerned SMOD could occur. Is there anything i can do to prevent this from happening or what should i avoid doing to dodge this from occurring. Thanks!!!

Welcome from Denver!

2010 should be safe from SMOD. But if you want the insurance, new radiator and complete coolant & transmission flush.

Thanks!

My xterra has 168,000 miles should I be safe by now? Anyone know what triggers the SMOD problem?
An issue with the coolant eating parts of the transmission cooler inside the radiator.

I would verify the part numbers and know so you can get it done if needed.

Hello Nissanians!

Screen Shot 2023-07-04 at 3.59.32 PM.pngIt turns out that my xterra (2010) SE radiator has this part number. Its physical condition looks ok. Up to now has not given any trouble. So if no problem, should I leave it like that? Also I question if replacing will not going to cause the same problem or a new one with a new radiator? In the case of problem is beginning to ocurr what should be warning symptoms?

CSF I think is a commonly reccomended brand. I have the Nissan Select radiator I bought from Nissan when I had my secondary timing chain TSB taken care of.

RockAuto for OE spec. Should be around $100. CSF if you want to be fancy and have an all aluminum radiator with no plastic end caps. And $350 less money.

I'm a first Gen guy, but if I had a 2nd gen with that mileage, I'd swap the radiator to be safe. Cheap enough on Rock Auto, and surely couldnt be that tough a job.

Otherwise, welcome! Got any pics?

Yes change the radiator to the newer model without the issue
Or I’ve seen videos of just moving a tubing even. Look on YouTube

I have a 2010 and just had the transmission antifreeze mixture
I didn’t know there was finally a fix or I definitely would of had it done as soon as I knew about it

hoping I caught it soon enough and it lasts longer than 6 months I was told it would only last

Should be no issue. They probably stopped listing Nissans after 2008 because they switched to the blue variant.
