Looking for another Xterra. We had a 03 and we got rid of it for an Accord for gas since she commuted for work. I picked up a 01 pathy and loved it but got rid of it because I'm dumb. Loved that truck, but wasn't a manual. Life/kids forced hand on Explorer and while I love the V8 and 4wd I miss a manual and Nissans. Looking for a manual 4wd with the manual differential instead of the electric deal.

What years did they offer the 6 speed manual with the manual shifter for 4wd? Thanks

So in direct answer to your question. 00-04. Manual was available on all years. Manual transfer case was the standard on all. Supercharger was an option on the SE trim from 02-04 manual and supercharged was 02 only. 03 and 04 the supercharged was auto only.

Hence a 02 Supercharged (aka an SE/SC) with a manual == Unicorn.

It's just another computer to rely on. Mine hasn't failed. Yet. But the confirmation switch on my 4-lo is broken. Basically it'll shift in it 4-lo but the indicator on the dash will flash constantly like it's not on.

My pathfinder had the 4wd knob. Are there any real issues with knob vs stick 4wd?
It's not a mechanical linkage, so you're relying a solenoid to make the change. As long as you do things correctly there aren't really any issues. The only issue I've actually seen is having the Neutral Position Sensor on a manual Frontier go out. That wasn't expensive or hard to replace so, no biggie .

Thanks. Looks like a decision is brewing. Like the perks of the 2nd Gen and want the manual transfer. Like anything... nothing is perfect

FWIW, I've owned both. And I regret selling my 1st Gen. Practically and functionally, the 2nd Gen is better in many ways. But I just don't love it like I did my 1st Gen.

What were your likes on Gen 1? Wife had the Gen 1 and absolutely loved it besides the automatic

More compact package. Better drivetrain (certainly a weaker engine, but everything behind the engine is virtually indestructible). Tighter turning radius. Less computers (manual transfer case, manual transmission). WAAAAAAYYYY better looking.

Cons. Even less aftermarket support than the 2nd gen. Slow. Bad gas mileage.

Hi, I just joined this forum because I'm getting ready to part with my 2002 (1st Gen) SE S/C. 5 speed manual, manual transfer case, and auto locking front hubs. Not sure if you're still looking or not but thought I reach out just in case, I'd like her to go to a good home!
