Anything ever come of the convo you had with Angel's girl (i'm horrible with names and forgot it) at ECXC?

Nope. Sent her my resume and heard nothing back. As I assumed would happen. Typical recruiter tbh. Talk themselves up and then when it comes to actually getting it done, nothing.

Like this recruiter from GE hit me up. I reply back that I'm interested and want to talk. Give him my cell number. It's been a month and I've heard nada.

I would rather slash my own testicles with a blunt knife than move or work in nova.

I just laughed way harder at that than I should have. Thank you

Hell, at this point, we should just hire you on as full time IT. You'd probably get paid at least $60k a year

On top of my current salary?

I said at least $60k. If our business guy was here, I'd ask him how much we pay annually to our top flight IT contractors. I'm guessing it's more than $70k.

However, judging from your response, I'm gonna guess that you make around..... 80k?

(This is fun negotiating a fake job offer)

Shy but close. I want out of the state system because we are no where close to where most security pros are salary wise. I'd rather deal with private sector for the 95+ money. Really I just want fair pay. Right now I'm doing a bunch of bull that I shouldn't have to do because the state cheaps out on hiring. They told us back in may that we were getting our first raise in like 6 years, 3% all around. Then this month they said, oops our bad we went over budget by like 1million so all raises are cancelled.

Not really. I went to school for Criminal Justice but while in school I had to work to pay for rent and food and all that. First job down here was at best buy selling computers. Eventually, moved over to geek squad before they became a sales tool and actually had to fix things. Then I worked help desks and desktop support. Learned most of my security stuff through experience here. Now I'm just at the point where I'm not learning much unless I do it on my own.

Same boat here. I've got a criminal justice degree. Ended up doing tech work. It's fun having student loan debt for a degree you'll never use.

Hahaha, if I'm lucky I maybe get an hour or two in the mornings on the weekends. Otherwise, I play all day when I'm off work but my wife still has to.

I'd love to be able to make that kind of money from strategically moving up the ladder and gaining experience from a job. However, I have no hardcore experience or knowledge in coding and programming, so that's why I'm stuck paying for school. I feel confident at getting a much better paying job than what I have now, but it's gonna take a couple of years to get there.

I meant to quote your pay post too; but that sucks they work you hard and give you no raise. When it comes down to it for me, I'll be honest and say that earning good money and doing something I know I'll love are very close at the top of my priority list. The American income system is fvcked, and I need to get my head finally above water while I'm still young.

Quit college to avoid student loans. Spent all my savings to go 2 semesters. Waste.

That's what is great about the school I'm going to. It's the top community college in the state, everything transfers to the local university, and I can pay for all of it out of pocket. My ultimate goal is to get the associate's degree, try to find a good place to hire me, and maybe get lucky enough that they want me to learn something specialized so they'll pay me to go back to school.
