My kid expressed interest in doing videos, so I started looking for used cameras to start out with. I settled on the DJI Pocket since it has a gimbal and screen, and a couple were listed for about $125 so I hoped to get them around $100.

Eventually I found a guy selling a Pocket and a Pocket 2 for $150 each… or so I thought. I had seen some videos explaining differences and such, but I asked which was in better shape as far as battery life and wear. He actually was selling both and a ton of accessories (wireless adapters, media connectors, etc all worth we’ll over another $200) all-in for $150. I thought it certainly must be some sort of scam but he sent me his YouTube channel and explained he had upgraded all his equipment and this was a sort of “pay it forward” deal, and turned out to be a really nice guy. He showed me how to work everything and connect everything, and now a week later I’ve been using everything and it all works perfectly as described. Still in a bit of disbelief. The new retail is $350 on the “2” and $200 for the original. And almost every add-on accessory available too.

Looking forward to doing some videos with them. Related: https://www.xterranation.org/index.php?threads/gear-for-youtube-videos-reviews-vlogs-etc.10557/

I bought a used osmo pocket. I like mounting the gimbal in the vehicle, as it shows almost a pov of what I see while wheeling.

The first time I took the osmo pocket on a trip, it stopped working. The gbal seems to be having a major issue, and I can't seem to figure out what's going on. I think I'm going to need to send it to dji for repair. Just be careful with the pocket, as the gimbal seems to be very sensitive.

Back to using the full size osmo and my action cameras instead.

Gotta drive across the ufcking state tomorrow at damn near $5 bucks a gallon. Think the government mileage rate for reimbursement increased at all during this? ufck no.
And yet at 58.5 cents per mile you're still making money on it. (I know not really because wear and tear etc.)
They only do it once a year, UNLESS the fuel prices go up drastically, and then they can do it 2x..... but even then it would be months from now.

True shiat, my Uncle has wanted me to go get a car for him and haul it back from San Antonio which is five or more hours. And for some reason thinks he shouldnt have to contribute to my fuel since we are related.

Nah Unc, maybe when gas is $1.85 again. But at these prices? shiat naw.

I wonder if that type of bouncing is just too much. I’ll probably stick with the gopro for moving shots and just use the pocket for handheld.

Well, considering the took the gimbal out of a Mavic drone, and gave it a handle, I doubt that's the case, but I'm no engineer. My full-size osmo hasn't had a single issue being bounced around.

But I've got 3 gopro style cams, plus the osmo, an fs700 (shoots 4k raw at 120fps), I'm not missing the pocket. It would be nice to have a stabilized gimbal run the whole time I'm driving though (since you can power it indefinitely via usb-c)
