I hate selling stuff on CL. Its such a hassle. Though I have bought quite a few Macbooks there though. And was able to turn them around on eBay for some decent money.

Also, when I changed my oil yesterday I took a few pics and made a writeup. I posted it in the second gen do it yourself section since I didn't see one already.

If I can make that better in anyway, feel free to let me know. That's my first ever write up. Just wanted to give a bit back to the forum that has given a lot to me.

looks good to me. its more in depth then my first write up, also mine was about aligning headlights on 1.5 gens lol.

This may be the wrong thread but I have a friend willing to build me some sliders but I need specs for them. Does anyone have them or know where I could get them?

I wore a short sleeve shirt yesterday and now I've got a jacket on. This weather is about bipolar.

ok, for the electrically minded people....if I'm going to be putting a winch solenoid box inside the engine compartment, what's the merit to just switching out to a pair of waterproofed 400A solenoids and ditching the box to save space?

here's my mentality in this:
*if I switch to waterproof 400A solenoids (or a waterproofed contact box like what warn has done on their M series winches) it will be considerably more resistant to damage than the stock solenoids
*saves space
*eliminates most common source of failure
*can drill and mount the winch controller port onto the upward facing portion of front bumper (already have a wireless controller for controlling inside or away from the vehicle.

downside:
*those solenoids aren't cheap?
*contact box is even more expensive?

is there something I'm missing here? is there a reason not to just nip a potential problem in the bud and just grab some solenoids or the contact box and do it the "overbuilt" way before it becomes a potential worry? (reading forums and seeing the warn VR guys pissed because their solenoid packs died is what has me curious on this)

I'm all for overbuilt. Especially waterproof and overbuilt.

What is the max current draw of the winch? Two 400A solenoids in parallel to split the load or in series?

I like this idea a lot. A whole lot.

max draw is less than 400A, two solenoids as in one for in one for out, like it is now, except with upgraded solenoids...I was thinking good starter solenoids would probably work wonderfully...

Okay, so you have an in and out solenoid each triggered by a separate signal wire. Got it.

400A seems low for a 9000lb winch. Aren't they usually in the 650 range?

what is this other thing about a trigger box you're talking about? Lemme see it.

There's the one warn uses for their ATV winches, the M series and better winches use a similar one that handles a much higher amp load...

Cause a quick search yielded 4x400A 12v solenoids for $71 on eBay.

How does that play into the actual control of the winch? can you simply connect 12v from the battery to one leg to get the winch to turn in one direction and then a second solenoid sending power to the other leg of the winch for reverse direction?

I guess the actual question there is, 'what does your current control box look like?"

got the full spec from the Engo site. And answered my own question. From looking at it, if you're only wiring for in cab controls, you can forgo the control box altogether and just use the solenoids. Which you can do for the remote, you'd just have to wire an extra circuity to apply power to each input terminal on the solenoid and cut in the plug for the wired remote on the bumper somewhere.

I think it'd be a really elegant setup.

Do you know the cost difference between something like the Warn part and just getting two 400A solenoids?

heh, well, here's a link to the correct warn part for what I'd need...
http://www.amazon.com/WARN-34977-12-Volt-Contactor/dp/B000OV7KYO and that's $233, but, is ONE PIECE, and is much better quality than the solenoid setups...
here's one that'll work too

are the solenoids that you found waterproof and copper terminal'd?

uh, I think that's adding extra stuff, there is no circuitry in the box, it's JUST the hot from the battery to the box, a hot from each of the two solenoids to the motor, a ground from the solenoids to the motor, and a ground from the battery to the solenoids, and the 3 wires from the controller plug to the appropriate spots on the solenoids....now, the wireless controller, it's got 5 wires counting the antenna....

WTF mate? Can a VA homie get a link? Shheeeeittt.

I have been out of touch for 4 years . . . i feel cold, so cold

Oh, the venerable Pirate Bay. They have a "comics" section. Just do a search for the books you want. I downloaded 60GB of Marvel stuff the other day and just got the complete Avengers (from the 60's to today), and complete Uncanny X-Men.

I actually just finished readying "The X-Ecutioner's Song" series and "Days of Future Past."

Now I'm going to go WAY back and read "The Dark Phoenix Saga" as well as the "Maximum Carnage" series.

As far as apps, there is a great one for iOS called ComicFlow that allows you to run a web server on your iPad and upload all the .cbr and .cbz files to it. $4 is a good price to pay for re-reading my childhood in comics.

The ones I saw looked like old ignition solenoids, but they listed as a "rebuild kit" for the old Warn setup. I guess from before that all-in-one solenoid box existed.

I like that $180 box. It looks small and easily hidden.

Yeah, I do see what you mean about the extra stuff....but you'd still need a way for the handheld remote to complete the circuit on the solenoid. Most of the new stuff I've seen is 5-pin on the handhelds instead of the old 3-pin setup.
