In Houston there are many Jazz joints. Sambuca, The Blue Note Jazz Cafe, & 57 West Jazz Cafe being the best.

My Dad and I love jazz music and one time we ventured around downtown Houston after a hockey game and found a jazz bar (forget the name) and we were the only white people there. They were very welcoming and looked at us as if we were from another planet; but we all ended the night enjoying the good tunes, great food, and drinks.

If you want to go west a little, Franklin, TN has the Factory. The Cannery in Nashville also has a few jazz shows such as Trombone Shorty last year.
