Hello all, I am new to the forums here. I bought my 2010 X a while back but had no intentions on doing anything to it until I stumbled onto this forum looking for replacement bumpers after my mother backed into it at a family picnic. I have looked around a good bit and I am forming a few ideas for my build. I am itching to start but I am wondering where to start. I have the cash to cover a Hefty bumper to replace the damaged stock bumper. My question was if that was a good mod to start with? Would it be better to put that money into a lift and other mods prior to the bumper? My tires are good so I don't want replace them before they need it but I want to powder-coat and/or paint the stock rims black as well as the grill. I also in the future want to do a Maxterra rear bumper, a GOBI rear Ladder, possibly a Xsokal? roof rack w/lights(zombie lights ha). All I have done is remove the mudflaps and the running boards. There are also a few more little things I want to do along the way. Any help would be nice. Thanks guys and gals. I also mow a few lawns as a side job so I haul a trailer a good bit with my mower and such. I also haul my bikes around a lot too, I am big into biking, mountain and road biking...

I've gotta say. Suspension will go a long way in setting you up for other mods. I think you messaged me the other day and I still think you oughta paint your rims yourself and save the money on a powder coating job for something better. Welcome to the nation man!

Thanks man, I really wish I could do the lift and the bumper at the same time. I was just worried that the stock tires will look a little small with a 2 inch sus lift. I don't want to get new tires until I need them. I may just have to save for a few to get both...thanks for the welcome. Yeah Macland I had messages you, I am afraid that I will screw the wheels up...

I wouldn't worry too much man. It's pretty forgiving. The great thing about it is you can sand everything down and start over. I'd step back and figure out what you want to use your X for. Camping? Rock crawling? Over landing? Grocery getting? Mall crawling? When you figure that out it's much easier to pick out what you'd like to do with your money.

Yeah that's true, I go biking in a lot of places that I have to do some wheeling to get to. I also have a hunting camp in my family in the mountains of WV that OS only reachable on old logging roads, that can be fun, also many creek crossings. I would say over landing and bada** daily driver.

I'd go with a suspension lift if you're wanting to spend some money. You could always get a dephep roof rack or a xoskel full rack replacement. The rack replacement definitely changes the entire look of the X. You can save some money by making a homemade interior bike rack (some people have pulled that off fairly easily.) Or you could buy the hitch type bike rack. Whatever is easier for you.

Oh believe me, I work at a bike shop part time too, I hot a tray hitch rack right after I purchased the X. I think I will save up and do suspension and front bumper at the same time. Just install whatever comes first. I think I'm the meantime I will paint my time, I am still nervous to do that though. Macland, did you clear coat over the engine block paint? I want a matte finish to them. Clear would give me a shine right?

I would work on the lift first.. The Gen 2 Xterra is known to have weak rear springs.. and at some point you will feel it bottom out.
So if you go and add a heavy rear bumper on it.. its going to really bring that into the light.

One of our sponsors.. Nisstech sells a nice lift.. ;)

Either way welcome into XN... Hope you enjoy it

I did do a clear coat on the wheels and I still got a matte black finish over time. However, I did use the high gloss engine paint. I noticed the other day that O'Reillys had high heat engine paint in a matte black.

Full set, like stated above, the 2nd gen leafs can be weak.. but it also depends on how much you want to lift your truck

Regardless, welcome to the nation!

I don't want more then a 2 inch lift. I can navigate all the off roading I will do with the stock setup. I am interested in doing some more trail riding in my area but this is my daily driver as well. I am not a fan of highly lifted vehicles. I see that some of the sets are a 1.5 inch lift. I think I am sold on the whole set. I just want to be under a grand.

The nisstec ultimate lift with the AAL would be sufficient for what it sounds like you want. Go hd springs, the 600lb option and I think you'll be good for the added weight of a bumper as well as some gear in the back.

Once this modding starts....

It doesn't stop :)

A 2" will make your Xterra look just how it should have from the factory.

Do that and down the road add a 2" body lift and bam! One bad azz Xterra ;)

Well guys I have started the mods. Well I painted my frills today. Ran out of paint and need to get more, kind of bumbed that I got a few big drips when the can was running low but a little sanding and a few more coats. I'll post pics when I finish.

Here it is, may spray a bedliner type over this but not sure. Have one spot that got mess up on install. Will have to sand and re shoot but not today. Too hot. Over 100 here.

THIS JUST IN...!!! I got my full OME kit in yesterday. Can't wait to get it on, thinking about stealthing the wheels at the same time. My wife made a deal with me that I have to finish the hard wood floors first though...ugh! ImageUploadedByTapatalk1349498134.249006.jpg
